Amitiza Asthma Causes and Reviews

Asthma is a chronic disease that affects your airways. Your airways are tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. If you have Asthma, the inside walls of your airways become sore and swollen. That makes them very sensitive, and they may react strongly to things that you are allergic to or find irritating. When your airways react, they get narrower and your lungs get less air.

Symptoms of Asthma include

  • Wheezing
  • Coughing, especially early in the morning or at night
  • Chest tightness
  • Shortness of breath

Not all people who have Asthma have these symptoms. Having these symptoms doesn't always mean that you have Asthma. Your doctor will diagnose Asthma based on lung function tests, your medical history, and a physical exam. You may also have allergy tests.

When your Asthma symptoms become worse than usual, it's called an Asthma attack. Severe Asthma attacks may require emergency care, and they can be fatal.

Asthma is treated with two kinds of medicines: quick-relief medicines to stop Asthma symptoms and long-term control medicines to prevent symptoms.

I have been taking Amitiza for 7mos now and think it is great. I take 2 24mg every night before bed and in morning I have total evauation. I am on disability for a neck injury and have been batting consipation for years. It is nice to finally not be consipated for 3 or 4day a week, the only side effect is shortness of breath sometimes. If it is not harmfull to me I would gladly trade. The other thing is that I have lost a considerable amount of weight...I am happy with that though, my only concearn is it alright to have a loose movement everyday? It does not bother me because it makes me feel cleaned out...Has anyone else has the same?

I was prescribed Amitiza, 8 mcg, twice a day chronic constipation. After 2 weeks, absolutely no improvement. Was told to add Miralax and maybe passed a small BM in the morning. Was told to increase to 24 mcg twice a day. Have been doing this plus using Miralax on and off and absolutely no improvement. So, have been on this fir a month. A few days ago, felt tightness in my chest and throat and notified the doctor. Was told to stay on med but contact my OCP to get an EKG done!! Prior to this, was instructed to do a Miralax/Ducolax cleanse, which I have not had time to do yet having the need to go out the following day. I have chronic dry mouth and it seems worse. Have bloating terribly. This is a specialist at Stanford that has prescribed this! Why do they keep telling me to stay on it and give it time to work? It's been a month! I want off this drug but don't know of an alternative.
Can't say it has helped me one bit and I just don't feel well.

I have been taking Amitiza for about 18 monts this go around. I tried it once before several years ago and did not like the side efects. The constipation got so bad that I became William g to do whatever. My dr prescribed me 2-24mcg a day. I started out on this regiment with not very good success. I would cramp and my stomach would feel full and not have a BM. I cut it back to one a day. As soon as I get up in the morning I take a pill with a cup of coffee. The. I drink bottled water until I have a BM. I don't eat anything before I do any of this bc it seems to have an effect on how the medicine works on me. My BM is usually not solid, though occasionally it is. It took me a while to get used to the medicine, but I stuck with it and am glad I have because at this point I don't know what I would do. Take the med on an empty stomach and hydrate yourself well,, it should work wonders. The only side effect I deal with now is occasional shortness of breath.

My daughter (17) started with 8mcgs 2 x daily for 1 week - no results - still very constipated. Dr. then switched her to 24 mcg 2x daily w/2 dulcolax. She moved her bowels with violent diarrhea foraboutn3 days, then it stopped. All along her symptoms of nausea and cramping everytime she ate any type of food persisted.
She stopped the Amitiza on her own accord and just used the dulcolax and moved her bowels. The side effects of flushness of face, exhaustion, and overall "illness" within 4 days of using this drug was not worth it.
This is not a drug to be experimented with as the side effects can be immediate and chronic.

I I am an 18 yr old female, whowas given samples of Amitiza by my GI. I took as he told me to. I have been taking for about 1 week, I have had the following side effects: Nausea, chest tightening, difficulty breathing, severe headaches, severe dizziness, full body aches, jumpy heart rate, diffuculty breathing and fainting. Last night at around 10:20 pm, AMR was called to my car where I was unresponsive to voice and touch, I awoke about 3 min later disoriented and scared. Thank goodness I was sitting in my car and not moving. My mom was called and I was taken to the ER , where all my tests were normal( blood and EKG). The Doc said his best guess was the med after he done some research and to quit taking it. My mom called my GI the next morning to let him know, she talked to the nurse and was told not to take it. This drug is HORRIBLE!!!

I have been taking Amitiza for a few months with some good effect, although the side effects are not worth it. I've generally felt low, sick to the stomach, and have started to get itchy/tingly skin which my allergist says is from something systemic, not external. I don't know why else I would be experiencing these unpleasant symptoms, so I stopped taking it today.

I suffer with IBS-C and my doctor recently prescribed Amitiza. It worked the first 2 weeks. However, the 3rd week I experienced side effects that sent me to the ER. I was awakened with a terrible, debilitating pain in my left groin and thought I had a blood clot. The ER found nothing and chalked it up to muscle spasms! I began to notice the side effects of nauseau, shortness of breath, sharp headaches, muscle spasms, gas, itching, bloating, lower back pain, and the worse of all SEVERE ABDOMINAL PAIN. I began to research the side effects of this drug on-line and discovered that most people who took this drug experienced the sme effects. I thanked God that people took the time to write about their side effects and post them. Someone understands!!! I discontinued taking Amitiza. My colonologist suggest removing my large intestine. I think that's a little drastic, but with all the pain I suffer, I might consider this. Isthere any other hope?

Was prescribed Amitiza for chronic constipation by gastro dr. After taking for appx one month, began to feel tired and experience hair loss. Spoke w/ gastro dr about this and he insisted I get back on the med and stated that I should see my pcp and said the Amitiza did not cause this. The following week I was getting dressed one morning and remember my hands began to itch bad, and then hands began to swell. My husband found me passed out on the bathroom floor and called 911. My BP was extremely low and skin was red (except for face, which was pale). Was admitted into hospital. Ulcer was found, however, GI dr was convinced that ulcer did not cause my passing out. After reading this page, I believe the Amitiza caused the fainting, swelling, redness and drop in BP - maybe even contributed to the ulcer. I am 41 year old female with no health problems at all, other than constipation and am on no other meds.
