Lichen Planus Medical Research Studies

Up-to-date List of Lichen Planus Medical Research Studies

What Research is Being Done?

A clinical study involves research using human volunteers (also called participants) that is intended to add to medical knowledge. There are two main types of clinical studies: clinical trials (also called interventional studies) and observational studies. Following list includes both interventional and observational studies.

Latest Lichen Planus Medical Research Studies

Rank Status Study
1 Unknown  Tacrolimus Ointment in Oral Lichen Planus
Condition: Oral Lichen Planus
Interventions: Drug: 0.1 % tacrolimus ointment;   Drug: 0.1 % triamcinolone paste;   Drug: Orabase paste
Outcome Measure: Change in clinical score for OLP
2 Unknown  Pilot Study of Apremilast (CC-10004) in the Treatment of Moderate to Severe Lichen Planus
Condition: Lichen Planus
Intervention: Drug: Apremilast (CC-10004)
Outcome Measures: Proportion of subjects achieving significant clinical response in cutaneous disease defined as a 2 or more grade improvement of the physician global assessment (PGA) after 12 weeks of treatment.;   Proportion of subjects with mucosal involvement who achieve a significant clinical response in mucosal disease defined as physician global assessment of mucosal disease (PGAMD) of "complete resolution" or "marked improvement" after 12 weeks of treatment.;   Change in the subjects' target area lesion count after 12 weeks of treatment relative to baseline.;   Change in the subjects' target area lesion severity score (TALSS) after 12 weeks of treatment relative to baseline.;   Proportion of subjects who achieve a subject global assessment of "complete resolution" or "marked improvement" after 12 weeks of treatment.;   Change in the subjects' dermatology life quality index (DLQI) score after 12 weeks of treatment relative to baseline.;   Change in the subjects' assessment of itching on a visual analogue scale (VAS) after 12 weeks of treatment relative to baseline.;   Safety and tolerability of Apremilast (type, frequency, severity, and relationship of adverse events to study treatment)
3 Unknown  The Efficacy of Topical Minocycline in Managing Symptomatic Oral Lichen Planus
Condition: Oral Lichen Planus
Interventions: Drug: Minocycline;   Drug: Dexamethasone
Outcome Measure: symptoms relief
4 Unknown  Lichen Planus Mucosae at USZ, Efficacy of Oral Alitretinoin
Condition: Lichen Planus (LP)
Intervention: Drug: alitretinoin
Outcome Measures: Efficacy of alitretinoin (Toctino®) based on the Escudier score of oral lesions at baseline and after 24 weeks of treatment.;   Assess the efficacy of alitretinoin over time in reduction of signs (e.g. ulcerations) or symptoms (e.g. pruritus), using VAS for pruritus and pain and OHIP;   Assess the time to response (time to 50 % reduction in the total Escudier score);   Assess oral mucosal changes regarding inflammation and erosions, at treatment end compared to baseline using Escudier;   Assess the number/distribution of extramucosal skin lesions (papules) of LP at treatment end compared to baseline;   Assess, if applicable, the inflammatory infiltrate in mucosa and skin before and during alitretinoin therapy determined by histopathology taken before and 4 weeks after initiation of study treatment.;   Determine the relapse rate (relapse is defined as Escudier score or number of extramucosal papules increasing back to > 75% of baseline) within 24 week follow-up;   Assess safety of alitretinoin in mucosal Lichen Planus for the body as a whole
5 Recruiting Study of Inflammatory Role of Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) in Atrophic and Erosive Forms of Oral Lichen Planus
Condition: Lichen Planus, Oral
Intervention: Biological: buccal cavity sample
Outcome Measure: Measure of level of EBV nucleic acids
6 Unknown  Free Soft Tissue Graft in Treatment of Oral Lichen Planus
Condition: Oral Lichen Planus
Intervention: Procedure: Surgical resection
Outcome Measures: Relief of sign & symptoms (every 2 month up to 1 years);   Relief of sign & symptoms and no positive histopathologic features of OLP
7 Unknown  Therapeutic Effect of Quercetin and the Current Treatment of Erosive and Atrophic Oral Lichen Planus
Conditions: Atrophic Oral Lichen Planus;   Erosive Oral Lichen Planus
Interventions: Drug: placebo;   Drug: Quercetin
Outcome Measure: the effects of this Drug on OLP measured with VAS scale for pain and evaluation of intensity of lesions.
8 Recruiting Off-Label Use of Ribavirin in Management of Mucocutaneous Extrahepatic Manifestations of HCV Infection
Conditions: Hepatitis C;   Lichen Planus;   Vasculitis;   Autoimmune Diseases
Interventions: Drug: Ribavirin;   Drug: Betamethasone
Outcome Measure: Percentage of participants with improved skin manifestations of HCV infection after taking Ribavirin compared with topical steroids.

These studies may lead to new treatments and are adding insight into Lichen Planus etiology and treatment.

A major focus of Lichen Planus research is the development of new drugs and other treatment options. Studies seek to identify new drugs to treat various related disorders and to find safer, more effective doses for medications already being used. Other research is aimed at identifying receptors or drug targets.
