Tuberculosis (TB) is a bacterial infection caused by a germ called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but they can also damage other parts of the body. TB spreads through the air when a person with TB of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes or talks. If you have been exposed, you should go to your doctor for tests. You are more likely to get TB if you have a weak immune system.

Symptoms of TB in the lungs may include

  • A bad cough that lasts 3 weeks or longer
  • Weight loss
  • Coughing up blood or mucus
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Fever and chills
  • Night sweats

If not treated properly, TB can be deadly. You can usually cure active TB by taking several medicines for a long period of time. People with latent TB can take medicine so that they do not develop active TB.

Resolved Question: Is this how you EDL types feel about Muslims, be honest?
Link - Thu, 23 May 2013 23:57:42 GMT - Email The Author
Description: 'For us, this is not a problem you can turn a blind eye to, one to be solved by small concessions. For us, it is a problem of whether our nation can ever recover its health, whether the Jewish spirit can ever really be eradicated. Don't be misled into thinking you can fight a disease without killing the carrier, without destroying the bacillus. Don't think you can fight racial tuberculosis without taking care to rid the nation of the carrier of that racial tuberculosis. This Jewish contamination will not subside, this poisoning of the nation will not end, until the carrier himself, the Jew, has been banished from our midst.' Adolf Hitler "the Jewish question today was no longer a German problem: it had become a world problem." Adolf Hitler Neither the Nazi's nor the Muslims are/were intent on taking over the world, it was Britain who declared war on Germany then invaded Europe and it was Britain who invaded Iraq before years of colonizing many middle eastern countries nobody would pay any attention to the nuts in your videos if we weren't invading their countries, hate breeds hate That the Jewish nation is the only nation selected by God, while all the remaining ones are contemptible and hateful. That all property of other nations belongs to the Jewish nation, which consequently is entitled to seize upon it without any scruples. An orthodox Jew is not bound to observe principles of morality towards people of other tribes. He may act contrary to morality, if profitable to himself or to Jews in general. A Jew may rob a Goy, he may cheat him over a bill, which should not be perceived by him, otherwise the name of God would become dishonoured. Schulchan Aruch, Choszen Hamiszpat, 348 The only difference between your nutty line and mine is that Jews actually do control the world, the French declared war on Germany too

Link - Fri, 17 May 2013 09:53:57 GMT - Email The Author
Description: Hi guys , I don't normally ask advice like this but as I can't find what I am looking for I decided to give it a go . A few months ago I developed a swelling at the bottom off my neck didn't panic as I assumed it was my thyroid as I have a family history of thyroid probs. I was immediately sent to hospital and had bloods done. My thyroid is working perfect. I have had a camera in my throat and that shown a lump nodule. Had a scan yesterday and biopsy done it did show a 3cm lump . Which can be be I am told normal. But my other problem is my chest seems to ache nothing to bad but I now it's there. I get breathless quite easily too which again is odd. I won't say I am tired constantly but can be . Pretty much I am in good health I am 40 don't smoke a little over but generally don't suffer with any ailments except for what I have mentioned . Then some one says I should ask for a tb test . Why as I don't think I have the symptoms plus wouldn't they pick that up on a biopsy. Plus if they pick some thing bad up would they call me back sooner to hospital for results ??

Resolved Question: Swollen Lymph Nodes - Worried!?
Link - Wed, 08 May 2013 18:37:41 GMT - Email The Author
Description: Hello! I'm a 29 year old male and today is Wednesday. On Sunday I went out drinking with some buddies and we had quite a lot (I dont remember getting home - oops). Then on Monday we went to a bbq which involved beer again. Since Tuesday I've noticed a pain at the back of my head on the left side, its tender to touch and feels a bit like a ball. Tonight the same thing has started on the right side of the back of my head too, not as bad but it is tender to touch. Also, yesterday and today I've had an itchy head and little bumps come up almost like I'm being bitten by a small insect of something so I bought some lice lotion just in case and have used it. My girlfriend says she cant see lice anyway. Can anybody help with what this could be? My understanding of cancer is the lymph nodes would not hurt, the one on the left is uncomfortable and very tender to touch. I am a big worrier so I'd appreciate any help, advice and support! Thanks

Resolved Question: Alcohol abuse, what damage am I doing to my body?
Link - Mon, 06 May 2013 00:45:38 GMT - Email The Author
Description: I just turned 23 but my issues with alcohol (DUI, alcohol poisoning, blacking out) go back about 5 years and recently has escalated. At first it was a weekend thing just to socialize, then more than weekends, now everyday. I used to drink hard alcohol but now I only drink wine because I can drink a lot of it, stay awake but also get trashed. My tolerance is increasing so I drink at least a 750ml bottle of 9% wine but usually if I can over 1250ml (1 1/2 bottles) of wine every night. I also drink during the day, about 2 glasses. So about 2 bottles a day, alone. I know I have a problem and it is not healthy to drink this much but it is my way of dealing. What I really want to know is what damage I am doing to my body? P.S Not sure but this has probably been going on off and on for about a year. When I do stop its only for a few days. Also I am a girl about 180lbs.

Resolved Question: would you please check my english homework ? I 'm french?
Link - Mon, 15 Apr 2013 15:36:58 GMT - Email The Author
Description: IT'S A PRESENTATION VERY IMPORTANT FOR ME. THANK YOU. § Sorry, it i s a little long Of what have we fear? There are plenty of things to be afraid of. But sometimes we are afraid by things not very dangerous. And sometimes we don’t care of other things that are really dangerous I ‘m drawing a big square with for little squares inside. The line on the right is the most dangerous things, the line of the left is the things not dangerous at all. The line on the top is what we fear The line which is down is what we don’t fear I m going to give you a picture and you ‘ll have to put it in the correct square. Then, after we will check together your mistakes ( if there are mistakes) 1)Flying : The plane is lest dangerous than the car ! With the plan, two peoples die in the word a day.And with the car, one people die in France each hour ! 2)Cancer : Very dangerous ! We especially fear outcomes that are painful and prolonged. 8 millions of people die from cancer each year. But today, for one person one two, the cure is almost total, but for some cancers, the forecast is very bad ( lung, lever). The cancer kill more than the AIDS,tuberculosis and malaria together 3)Big hugs: Big hugs are very good for the health : they release the “love hormone”, that decreases the anxiety. This hormone is the ocytocine 4)Cell-phone radiation : People fear cell-phone radiation because it is a relatively new technology the danger of these radiations aren’t proved by any studies. 5)Obesity : Do you think we control what we eat ? In reality, most people are overweight and getting fatter and it is very bad for their health and it is cutting their life expectancy. Obesity is responsible of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases high blood pressure. And you have to know that the obesity kill 2,8 millions of people each year in the world. Obesity is the fifth risk factor for the health 6)Global warning : The danger is real and especially for our children and the next generations ; Ecological disturbance which affects the planet will increase very quickly and will make a lot of damages for the animals, the plants and the human being. 7)Teddy bears: They are harmless and very soft and cuddey…….. But sometimes they may contain little spiders : accarien and it is not good for children they are allergic. It provides asthma crisis. Then, the mother has to take the tedy and put it outside the bedroom and it is a drama for the little child ! 8)Smoking : It is the second cause of death in the word.) Everybody knows that smoking is a very dangerous drug but it is not easy to stop when we are addict ! Smoking causes a lot of cancers.Luckily, the law has changed in the public places and now it isn’t allow to smoke in the restaurant, in the schools, in the public transportation…; But in the past, eveybody may smoke averywhere even in the hospital! 9)Nuclear war : We are afraid by the nuclear power because some nuclear accidents are in our memories : Tchernobyll , and more recent Fukushima. But we don’t worry much about nuclear war, even though the list of nuclear states is growing. With the stock of bombs , you could destroy the whole humanity! The media doesn’t often speak about the danger of the nuclear and then we don’t easily imagine or fear a A- Bomb, a new Hiroshima ! 10)Heart disease According to the WHO, it is the first cause of death. Heart diseases kill 57 millions of people in a year ! But we aren’t really afraid of heart disease because It does not cause a long and painful disease with heavy treatments as the cancer

Resolved Question: What is minimal pleural effusion versus pleurodiaphragmatic adhesion left..? Is it a lung disease?
Link - Fri, 12 Apr 2013 03:55:54 GMT - Email The Author
Description: Recently, I have done my chest x-ray and got that remark. It was so shocking because all my chest x-rays done in the past were all negative. I didn't feel anything wrong with my body and no history of any lung disease except for minor coughs and colds when I was young. Also, all my laboratory results were in normal range. Because of that, the physician in a certain diagnostic had automatically rejected to issue a medical clearance. I had asked for the second opinion in an ISO 9001 certified diagnostic center, as what I had expected, the result was negative. I went back to the clinic but they insisted that their findings were correct. I really cried because I felt being discriminated. Probably, they were judging me according to my body/appearance; I am petite. Also, I had just borrowed the money I used in my medical examination. Been worried about my health, I had asked for the third opinion to a certain specialist (Internal Medicine - Pulmonary Diseases). The doctor reviewed the chest x-ray and was been shocked because according to him it was negligible. He issued me a medical certificate. Part of the content of the medical certificate was… “Since the newest chest x-ray was read as negative, then it was probably just an artifact that may have appeared as pleural thickening. In my opinion, she is fit to work abroad”. Is it true that once you have a scar in your lungs you are disqualified to work in dubai..? It brought a negative impact to my well-being. I sometimes meditate, upon recalling their findings, because how can I know if their findings about that pleural effusion will be gone completely when every time I undergo chest x-ray the result will always be negative? My mother got depressed about their findings and even myself I began to feel self-pity… Am I not allowed to work in dubai just because of that findings? They did not even give at least a brief explanation about their findings. I felt really shocked because it was my first time to have that kind of remarks. By the way, I am from Cebu City and the agency hired me is in Manila. The medical examination took place here in Cebu City. In addition, do I have the right to at least question their findings? How do a certain radiologist categorize their findings in this matter? If they observe a very faint pleural thickening will they automatically put that remarks that I have mentioned above? Do radiologist always 100% sure of their first finding that they ignore to take a second look or neglect the findings of the others? I really want to work abroad but because of that findings my dreams have shattered literally. I was very happy upon receiving my final clearance from DOST because I was a DOST scholar then and obliged to render a 3-year service. And because of their findings, I am doubtful now and don't know what to do next. I began to feel psychological disorders now. I can't sleep well and I felt something wrong inside my body. It had started when I had learned their findings on my chest x-ray. Don't know what to do................

Resolved Question: Is she blaming me for all her problems now?
Link - Thu, 11 Apr 2013 15:25:15 GMT - Email The Author
Description: I was in a relationship with her for 11 months. We broke up on the month in which we would be a year together. Two weeks later after the break up we got back together. She admitted to being scared that I would hurt her again but I promised her I wouldn't. Her best friend even told me that I had changed and that it now seemed like I was treating my gf better. My girlfriend has always had problems with her health and I knew when she told me. After the break up I started to rethink things and realized that there were thing that I had done wrong but not every problem in our relationship was my fault. When we broke up she said she emotionally hurt. When we got back together she started telling me about her health and about how it was all my fault because I hurt her in the past. Just yesterday she said she was "diagnosed" with tuberculosis, and she is blaming it on me! Like wtf is wrong? Is it even my fault she has health problems? I looked up causes of tuberculosis and it has nothing to do with emotional damage. Please help me!

Link - Tue, 09 Apr 2013 01:18:40 GMT - Email The Author
Description: Well me and my mom are getting ready to receive our Greencards. Our lawyer told us we needed to take the physical. At the doctor today my mom found these envelopes that haven't been open yet. They are physicals that we received in 2007. Now to do another physical it's gonna be $500, since we have these envelopes with all the information, doesn't that mean we can just turn those in and save $500? By the way our doctor said that we should talk to our lawyer about that, and that information expires every year. But the point is that it's never been opened. I hope you guys understand this. And please give me some opinions. I'm really curious.

We are already paying over 1,500 for all of his immigration stuff and we live with very low income, so if there is a way to reduce the reaction so he won't need a chest xray?

Resolved Question: Prostate cancer questions?
Link - Sat, 23 Mar 2013 16:51:53 GMT - Email The Author
Description: Hi, so this is just for advice. My daddy has been battling stage four prostate cancer for over 2 years now. He had 9 weeks of radium when he was first diagnosed and recently under went another week. He has been told he would not receive any more, I believe this is because his body can not take any more. Before he under went the last session his PSA levels in his blood were increasing, we were told that the cancer (which is a very aggressive type scale 8) is not responding to the treatments. At the moment he is on steroids and he has an implant (unsure of the name). His mood and health has improved since he started these (on them 3 months). He is 68 now and I just don't know what to expect. Can anyone help?? He is still bleeding from the first course of radium and he has aches and pains. His last scans had shown that is has spread to some of the glands in the bottom of the stomach. Although the consultant said it may have been there all along and just not shown up. Before the scans were undertaken the consultant and his own GP believed that it had spread further due to the constant increase in his PSA levels and both were shocked when nothing showed up. The consultant even told mum that if we want daddy to walk us down the isle then us girls should consider getting married (they have been engaged 3 years and no had been date set). I really just don't no what to expect any more. Surgery has never been an option, but they have been talking about chemo which dad isn't to keen on. I know that this is a terminal diagnosis so will chemo do any good?? He is due to meet with the consultant next week so I just want a heads up of what to expect. At the last meeting mum asked the consult how long did he think we had and he did not answer. I believe the question was not answered because he was worried about dad. Dad never asks questions when he's in so we are kind of left in the dark.

Resolved Question: Quick yes or no answer on Tuberculosis?
Link - Wed, 20 Mar 2013 21:15:37 GMT - Email The Author
Description: I am doing a research project in my school health class on Tuberculosis. I was on a website where it said "However, inhaling the germ does not mean you will develop active disease. A person's natural body defenses are often able to control the infection so that it does not cause disease. In this case, the person would be infected, but does not have active disease. Only about 10% of those infected will develop TB in their lifetimes". This is called latent TB, correct? I am pretty sure but I was not positive so I thought I should ask. Thanks in advance for any answers ^.^

Description: Lately I have been going crazy. I have several symptoms that seem to add up to something pretty scary. I don't have health insurance so visiting doctors can be expensive but of course if these symptoms are as serious as I believe, I will surely make the time and arrangements. Male 24 years old My symptoms: Night sweats "nightly" Persistent Vomiting Gas and Pain after eating "almost every meal" Lower abdomen/ anal pain Weight loss of 13% of my body weight in a little over 6 months Swollen lymph nodes: underarms "over 6 months" behind left ear "over a month" Hair loss "non-pattern" Persistent heartburn. Very mild bouts of depression/ anxiety Please take these symptoms seriously. I'm just curious as to what this may be and what I should be asking my doctor for.... Thanks in advance!

Voting Question: Please check my grammar! Thank you in advance!?
Link - Fri, 08 Mar 2013 08:51:25 GMT - Email The Author
Description: The biggest problems is that HIV/AIDS and homelessness are strongly related. Firstly, homeless people with HIV/AIDS encounter many challengers to their health. Due to factors such as poor hygiene, malnutrition, and exposure to cold and rainy weather, homeless people are already many times more likely than housed people to become ill. Since HIV targets the immune system, people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) do not have the ability to fight off disease, and their risk of illness is even higher. Additionally, crowed shelters with poor ventilation can endanger people with HIV/AIDS by exposing them to infections such as hepatitis A and tuberculosis. Secondly, Psychological factors play an additional role in the progression of HIV/AIDS. People who are homeless experience a great deal of stress on a daily basis, which exacerbates the progression of HIV/AIS. Additionally, stress, depression, and other psychosocial factors that are common in homeless people affect behaviour, which in turn affect the progression of HIV/AIDS. Lastly, for People with HIV/AIDS, housing is a matter of life or death .For example, homelessness makes it more difficult to obtain and use antiretroviral treatments (ARTs), the medication for HIV/AIDS medications. ARTs have complex regimens, and adherence is very difficult for people who don't have access to stable housing, clean water, bathroom, refrigeration, and food. They are therefore, more likely to die prematurely.

Resolved Question: questions on lorenzos oil?
Link - Sun, 03 Mar 2013 19:36:19 GMT - Email The Author
Description: 1. Does Lorenzo's Oil acts at the endoplasmic reticulum or the peroxisome? 2. The movie describes the action of what two enzymes? What do the enzymes do and where are they located? (VLCSFAs are degraded in the peroxisome by a pathway that begins with the enzyme called VLCFA-CoA synthase; this is the enzyme that is missing from the peroxisomes of Lorenzo. The second enzyme is the enzyme that makes the VLCSFAs, and it is located in the endoplasmic reticulum) 3. What were the two major paradoxes in the movie? Explain them and how models and explanations were developed for both. 4. The defective allele for ALD codes for what protein? What does the protein do? 5. Does Lorenzo have one or two copies of the gene that causes ALD? Does his mother or father have one or two copies? For each person, note whether the copy is defective (recessive) or normal (dominant). 6. True or False: Most inherited diseases like ALD or cystic fibrosis are recessive diseases. What does the phrase "recessive disease" mean? (due to expression of recessive allele; inherited diseases due to dominant allele are very rare) 7. If most inherited diseases are due to the recessive allele, and many patients die before they reproduce, why does the recessive allele remain in the population? (1: in some diseases, patients of some may live long enough to reproduce and (2): the "heterozygote advantage" could be responsible. The heterozygote carrier of sickle cell anemia is resistant to malaria; heterozygtote carriers of the recessive allele for Tay-Sach's disease may be more resistant to tuberculosis, heterozygotes for the recessive cystic fibrosis allele may be protected against cholera-induced diarrhea. Thus, heterozygotes may have an advantage and would keep the dangerous recessive allele in the population). 8. Why are boys more likely to have an inherited (recessive) disease than a girl? Use a Punnett square. 9. What if Lorenzo was able to have children: what would be the odds of having a child with ALD if Lorenzo married a carrier (calculate for a female child and then a male child) or a non-carrier individual? Use a Punnett square. 10. Go through the genetics of a non-sex linked recessive disease; that is, show the genotype of parents where there are two copies of the gene involved in an inherited recessive disease. Must both parents be heterozygotes or carriers for a child to be stricken? Will both girls and boys be affected with equal probability? What is the probability of two carriers producing a normal child? 11. With ALD, why is it not possible for a female to have the genotype of homozygous recessive (from figures, aa)? Why, in some other inherited diseases, is it possible to have this genotype (aa)? 12. For a disease that is carried on non-sex chromosomes, calculate the allelic frequency of A and a and the frequency of AA and the heterozygote carrier Aa. Note that one in 100,000 children have an inherited disease; this is the frequency of "aa" in the population. What equation would you use (Hardy Weinberg Equation) and what are the assumptions for the use of this equation? 13. How could the results of Hugo Moser's study (Sept, 2002) conclude that Loenzo's Oil works yet those of Aubourg et al., 1993, conclude that it does not work? Explain the problems with studies that use humans instead of animals such as "guinea pigs" as subjects (involve the number of subjects).

Resolved Question: If the government found a cure for cancer, would they keep it a secret?
Link - Sun, 03 Mar 2013 05:05:01 GMT - Email The Author
Description: I think they would because with a cure, the huge health corporations and many others would lose A LOT of money, since no one with cancer would need long term medical attention anymore. This seems like such an evil concept but you know the old saying, "Money is the root of all evil."
