Doxycycline Depressed Mood Causes and Reviews

Everyone feels stressed from time to time. Not all stress is bad. All animals have a stress response, and it can be life-saving. But chronic stress can cause both physical and mental harm.

There are at least three different types of stress:

  • Routine stress related to the pressures of work, family, and other daily responsibilities
  • Stress brought about by a sudden negative change, such as losing a job, divorce, or illness
  • Traumatic stress, which happens when you are in danger of being seriously hurt or killed. Examples include a major accident, war, assault, or a natural disaster. This type of stress can cause post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Different people may feel stress in different ways. Some people experience digestive symptoms. Others may have headaches, sleeplessness, depressed mood, anger, and irritability. People under chronic stress get more frequent and severe viral infections, such as the flu or common cold. Vaccines, such as the flu shot, are less effective for them.

Some people cope with stress more effectively than others. It's important to know your limits when it comes to stress, so you can avoid more serious health effects.

I was taking Doxycycline for an MRSA staph infection. I had tightness in my chest and worsening difficulty breathing, sore tongue, burning palms and soles of my feet, and extreme exhaustion. At the end of my 9th day on the medication, I had excrutiating headaches, I was unable to eat and drinking more than a sip of anything made me unable to breathe. I didn't even think about this being a side effect of the antibiotic. It was really scary. I stopped taking it two days ago, and I still feel somewhat bad, but I can at least breathe again now.

The doctor had prescribed me 100 mg Doxycycline twice daily for 14 days. On 9th day of medication, I had itching in different parts of my body. Then I consulted the doctor but he asked me to continue the Doxycycline and complete the course. To control itching he gave me antihistaminic drug for the remaining medication period. Even after completing the course of medicine I had little bit itching for one more week.

I was taking them as an anti-malarial. Caused a duodenal ulcer and a bleed on the brain, either of which could have killed me. Both nearly did, I had 3 months in hospital and 8 operations before I was discharged. I will probably never be properly well again.

I took Doxycycline for 10 days for perioral dermatitis. A week after completing the medicine I went to the ER with a burning in my chest. Then I lost my appetite, was nauseous and started losing weight. Three weeks later I was diagnosed with gastroparesis. I went on motility medication and changed my diet. It has been 14 months, I am improved, no longer taking the medication and able to eat small meals that are easily digestible. I know of 4 other people who developed gastroparesis after taking Doxycycline.

I am 11 days into a 20 day regime of Doxycycline for Staph. I am 51 and have not had a period in 2 years. 2 days ago I had some breast tenderness and this morning I woke to classic menstrual bleeding with abdominal cramps. Could the Doxycycline be responsible for this in some way? Should I follow up with my GP or call my GYN?
