Gabapentin Convulsion Causes and Reviews

Seizures are symptoms of a brain problem. They happen because of sudden, abnormal electrical activity in the brain. When people think of seizures, they often think of Convulsions in which a person's body shakes rapidly and uncontrollably. Not all seizures cause Convulsions. There are many types of seizures and some have mild symptoms. Seizures fall into two main groups. Focal seizures, also called partial seizures, happen in just one part of the brain. Generalized seizures are a result of abnormal activity on both sides of the brain.

Most seizures last from 30 seconds to 2 minutes and do not cause lasting harm. However, it is a medical emergency if seizures last longer than 5 minutes or if a person has many seizures and does not wake up between them. Seizures can have many causes, including medicines, high fevers, head injuries and certain diseases. People who have recurring seizures due to a brain disorder have epilepsy.

Gabapentin Convulsion Reviews

lower abdomen pressure, blurred vision, double vision, dizziness.

Tue, 01 May 2012

Has anyone experienced Ischemic Colitis after taking higher doses of Gabapentin? The episode started with guteral pain in my left side of my abdomen. The diarrhea commenced for three hours, then ten hours of BLOOD STOOLS. NOT bloody stools, this was JUST BLOOD in the stool. I had thirteen stools in ten hours with only blood. Then my hsuband arrived home and took me to the emergency room. I had been writhing in pain on the bathroom floor.

This was very frightening and draining, since my mother died of colon cancer at age 35, and my brother had Crohn's. HOwever, I then was admitted to the emergency room, and been given medicine to counteract the symptoms. The Dr did not want to admit it could be the Gabapentin, but I feel strongly it is. I have NEVER had anything like this in my life, and reading the small print on the pamphlet from the rx, colitis may be a very rare negative effect of taking Gabapentin. I am rare.

I have annual check-ups at the MAyo clinic, so my health had been clean as a whistle last year. There were not indications of disease brewing on the horizon. I am up to date on all colonoscopies, endoscopes, and general full checkups. They would know if something were amiss 'down south'.

I was given the Gabapentin for nerve pain three years ago, after a spinal, right leg foot injury. After years of pain, one will try anything. HOwever, the side effects of this higher dose(900mg 3 x daily) for me were debilitating. I was in the hospital for two days, but feel perhaps I will not be completely myself until I get myself off of this nasty drug. That is how I feel anyhow, and I have the photo of the blood to show. NOt Pretty.
Drugs are given so quickly-nobody wants to wait out their life with pain. It is awful. We do not want to live like that. How many generations before us had the same levels of pain, and could only choose to bear it or not bear it.

Hello,
I've been taking a cocktail of meds for 9 years to help treat acute nerve pain from a severe Brachial Plexus nerve avulsion C 7, 8, T1 and Spinal cord injury.
Medications: Gabapentin 3600 mg., Methadone 100 mg. , Baclofen 20 mg. every 8 hours.
These meds keep the pain intensity down to a steady biting, stinging, aggravation with extreme spasms
about 30 times a day.
The side-affects from Gabapentin for me are simply mild groggy when I first take the meds. My heart goes out to Kathy dealing with her depression, by the way is fueled by her Chronic Pain not Gabapentin.
The side-affects of Chronic Pain are losing parts of your life style that you ENJOY such as 1.Gym. 2.Socialize with friends. 3.Work and anything else you can't do as well because of Pain.

I was taking 1200 mg of Gabapentin for bi polar a couple of years and had side effects of sominence, periferal edema, unbalance, fuzziness between me and reality, loss of memory, shankiness in my hands. I know this sounds bad, but it stopped my anxiety, random talk in my had, I was able to relax more.

My doctor was ignorant of the side effects of this drug so I had to educate myself and take action. I reduced the mg to 600mg per day. 300mg morning and 300mg night and the side effects have lessened. I feel much better. I think each person reacts differently to medications and the patient has to be the final arbitor.

Tue, 12 Oct 2010

I just started taking Gabapentin for visual, auditory and tactile hallucinations. I've been on it four days and it seems to be working....fewer hallucinations. I was hospitalized last week to determine the cause of my hallucinations but my doctor was unable to give me a difinitive answer. He feels they are of either a psychiatric or neurologicalorigin.

I'm a big fan of Gabapentin and I hope it works for me. It worked wonders for my daughter in 07 when she had spinal fusion surgery fior scoliosis. She was in a study (she got the actual Gabapentin) to determine how effective Gabapentin is in treating spinalsurgical pain. My daughter hit her morphine (?)button less than other pattients receiving a Gabapentin placebo.

Thu, 19 May 2011

I am on minor dosage of 100mg, three times a day, for nerve pain, plus taking clonazepam for myoclonic jerks and zopiclone for sleep disorder.
The day after starting Gabapentin, constant and debilitating auditory musical hallucinations (which I have been suffering from for over a year and for which no underlying cause could be found) ceased immediately. =-O
My nerve pain decreased to about 1/4 of what it was.
I don't plan on discontinuing Gabapentin any time soon.
