PRURITUS Symptoms and Causes

What is itching?

Itching is an irritating sensation that makes you want to scratch your skin. Sometimes it can feel like pain, but it is different. Often, you feel itchy in one area in your body, but sometimes you may feel itching all over. Along with the itching, you may also have a rash or hives.

What causes itching?

Itching is a symptom of many health conditions. Some common causes are

 • Allergic reactions to food, insect bites, pollen, and medicines
 • Skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin
 • Irritating chemicals, cosmetics, and other substances
 • Parasites such as pinworms, scabies, head and body lice
 • Pregnancy
 • Liver, kidney, or thyroid diseases
 • Certain cancers or cancer treatments
 • Diseases that can affect the nervous system, such as diabetes and shingles
What are the treatments for itching?

Most itching is not serious. To feel better, you could try

 • Applying cold compresses
 • Using moisturizing lotions
 • Taking lukewarm or oatmeal baths
 • Using over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream or antihistamines
 • Avoiding scratching, wearing irritating fabrics, and exposure to high heat and humidity

Contact your health care provider if your itching is severe, does not go away after a few weeks, or does not have an apparent cause. You may need other treatments, such as medicines or light therapy. If you have an underlying disease that is causing the itching, treating that disease may help.

Can i take valium with neutrotin?

I am decreasing Neurontin. I am experiencing feeling of bugs crawling on me and itching all over. Could this be from Neurontin?

I began this drug for a muscle strain in my back 2 years ago. I am a healty 56 year old with no health problems whatsoever. At about that time I began using this drug I rapidly and unexpectedly lost my libido and suffered impotence problems.

I developed a rash on all extremities that itches like crazy. People started commenting that I had goose bumps all the time and I been taking Benicar for about 1 month exactly before the rash appeared.

I started Neurontin 4 nights ago...I've taken 4 - 300 mg.pills. One 300 mg. each night. I can't sleep and my tongue is swollen this morning. Called pharmacist and he said insomnia is a side effect of neurontin.... :'( I have terribel pheriphial n

I was put on neurontin and bextra. I had severe auditory hallucinations for a very long time. My children were taken from me for a year! I would hear people in the basement and I would chase them - I used a nail gun once, I would try to video them

Itching above, below and around the eyes. Redness on eye lids and below. Upper eyelid swollen .

Med worked for 5days then began feeling tingling on other parts of my body. My doc uped the med. We will see!

My side effects of Gabapentin are weekness, pain in extremetis, fatigue, memory loss, sometimes confusion., constipation, more pain in shoulders, knees, arms, some shaking, and cramping.

The itching is called pruritus & is a common side effect associated with StrongOpiate inegstion. Although if you are scratching, as bad as stated I would stay away from the meds as best you can & inform your doctor. Although

PRURITUS Clinical Trials and Studies

Treatments might be new drugs or new combinations of drugs, new surgical procedures or devices, or new ways to use existing treatments. The goal of clinical trials is to determine if a new test or treatment works and is safe. Clinical trials can also look at other aspects of care, such as improving the quality of life for people with chronic illnesses. People participate in clinical trials for a variety of reasons. Healthy volunteers say they participate to help others and to contribute to moving science forward. Participants with an illness or disease also participate to help others, but also to possibly receive the newest treatment and to have the additional care and attention from the clinical trial staff.
