Methotrexate Bone Marrow Failure Causes and Reviews

Bone marrow is the spongy tissue inside some of your bones, such as your hip and thigh bones. It contains stem cells. The stem cells can develop into the red blood cells that carry oxygen through your body, the white blood cells that fight infections, and the platelets that help with blood clotting.

With bone marrow disease, there are problems with the stem cells or how they develop:

  • In leukemia, a cancer of the blood, the bone marrow makes abnormal white blood cells
  • In aplastic anemia, the bone marrow doesn't make red blood cells
  • In myeloproliferative disorders, the bone marrow makes too many white blood cells
  • Other diseases, such as lymphoma, can spread into the bone marrow and affect the production of blood cells

Causes of bone marrow diseases include genetics and environmental factors. Tests for bone marrow diseases include blood and bone marrow tests. Treatments depend on the disorder and how severe it is. They might involve medicines, blood transfusions or a bone marrow transplant.

Methotrexate Bone Marrow Failure Reviews

Mon, 21 Feb 2011

My 27 years of MTX therapy have prevented physical deformity but caused me to have damage to my lungs. I am short of breath on any activity. MTX helped the pain somewhat but at the cost of my lungs? I was never told about this possibility nor told it ultimately RA could be fatal. I am only in my 50's not ready to die yet!

Hi I haven't had any side effects for the past six years of Methotrexate. but recently I am having some stomach discomfort like as soon as i eat something i have the slight discomfort on my abdoman. I take a glass of green leaf juice and i am fine again. I would want to know if I should reduce the dose.

I just started Methotrexate, I started itching in the same areas where I had experienced itching with the chicken pox 2 years ago. I am a 51 year old female who contracted chicken pox at 49 years old. This frightens me as I know this can cause disseminated herpes which can be potentially fatal. My Rheum told me to take Benadryl. I believe this is going to be my one and only shot this drug scares the death out of me.
