Metoprolol Hypotension Causes and Reviews

You've probably heard that high blood pressure is a problem. Sometimes blood pressure that is too low can also cause problems.

Blood pressure is the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your arteries. Each time your heart beats, it pumps out blood into the arteries. Your blood pressure is highest when your heart beats, pumping the blood. This is called systolic pressure. When your heart is at rest, between beats, your blood pressure falls. This is the diastolic pressure. Your blood pressure reading uses these two numbers. Usually they're written one above or before the other, such as 120/80. If your blood pressure reading is 90/60 or lower, you have low blood pressure.

Some people have low blood pressure all the time. They have no symptoms and their low readings are normal for them. In other people, blood pressure drops below normal because of a medical condition or certain medicines. Some people may have symptoms of low blood pressure when standing up too quickly. Low blood pressure is a problem only if it causes dizziness, fainting or in extreme cases, shock.

Fri, 19 Mar 2010
I have had heart Arrhythmias ? heart beats up to 200 bpm , when I workout , play ball, especially basketball and floorball. (had them for about 25 years) I can occationally get it if I bend down to pick something up, because I put pressure to my abdomon. The palpitations can last from 5 -10minutes to 45 min. usually. Usually goes away if I can lay down. I have now seen a doctor about this, and he is going to send me further to at heart clinic to find out what is happening. He gave me Metoprolol 50 mg a day, until I get in to the heart clinic. I have no high blood pressure. My question is....is Metoprolol the right type of beta block for me ?.....i didn't feel to good (abnormal) after taking 50 milligrams this morning. after 30 mins I started to feeel wierd and after about 1,5 hours I started to feel better. Should he have given me another type of beta blocker? Of what I have read there probably is other types that are for Arrhythmias ?

severity of symptoms started very gradually, starting with lowering of blood pressure and slowing of heart rate,to shortness of breath, increasing effects of sleep apnea even with a-pap ussage and eventually modafonil perscriptions, and depression and extreme feelings of dispair, shortness of breath and lethargy mimicing heart failure. All tests were monitored and GP and Cardiologists and not discribed in drug handouts provided.

I call it the death pill because thats what it makes you feel like. Severe reaction on my asthma, stomach, ulcers, ear infections, jitters, numbness, tingling, blurred vision, im sure there are 50 more i havent mentioned oh thats right quot;memory lossquot;, fatigue, constipation and or diarhea, there really should be a better beta blocker out there somewhere. I take this one for high blood pressure and i think i was better off with the high blood pressure.

I have only taken Metoprolol for 2 days and I feel like I am suffocating. My muscles feel stiff and I have alot of heartburn. I also feel bloated and very uncomfortable. I will not take it anymore. I hate blood pressure medication! I was taking atenolol for months and had trouble concentrating, thinking, and remembering. I had no energy to do anything nor did I care if anything got done. My doctor tells me now that it effects the central nervous system. I wonder what else it effects!
Sat, 10 Jan 2009
Fatigue was the biggest problem while taking Metoprolol. It was so bad that when I would come home from work I had to go straight to bed.I also had severe joint pains associated with this medication. I have since changed to Toprol XL, which has made a big difference.
