Given the following line structure: http://prntscr.com/xrecb
Identify the functional groups
Ether
Ester
Primary amide
Secondary amide
Arene
Secondary amine
Alcohol
We haven't been tutored about this year, but I want to keep ahead of class for the time being, so basically, how do I go about identifying these functional groups.
Since at the end and inbetween lines I know are CARBON molecules, what else can I use to help identify these functional groups. Thanks.
Is Ether one of the functional groups? (The --O-- in the middle?)
Thanks!

What should I do? All the doctors ever give me is more stimulants, well shit these fuckers have years of medical experience and training and all they can give me a is a goddamn stimulant, I'm tired of stimulants and I need a better and long lasting alternative solution to stimulants.

I'm 13 years old and ADD and ADHD run in my family (my dad, brother, uncle, and cousin have it) and for years I've wondered if I have it too or if it's just who I am.
I have trouble maintaining focus in almost everything I do (even writing this, I'm constantly clicking back and forth to my facebook, and checking my text messages)
I often end up not handing in work on time or staying up all night to finish it.
Certain things people do just drive me insane for really no reason at all. If my mother comes into my room for a minute and doesn't completely close my door (just puts it against the door frame) I go crazy. Its not a lack of privacy thing, it just really bothers me.
I've heard that some people with learning disabilities like ADD are able to do things like chew gum or listen to music in class to help them focus. I've realized that I can't do work of any kind without listening to music and because we aren't allowed to in class, I get hardly any work done.
When I'm told to sit st

My psychiatrist diagnosed me with ADD/ADHD, Inattentive Type last year. My grandmother said at first that I wouldn't take any medicine for it, and tha I'd get through it on my own. However, I'm about start college, and my focus and attention is worse thanit was. I need some way to focus to do good in school. Is my psychiatrist's word good enough for a doctor, or do i need more? Can I just go into the doctor's office and tell him i need ADHD meds? Is there a certain way ot ask for the meds? Also, what meds are the best for Inattentive types? Thanks!

As I have grown older I have taken notice of things that might suggest I have adult ADD, what kind of doctor should I seek? I have listed below some things that I've noticed:
I'm always running late. I always I'll have enought time to get ready in the morning and then start running late to work. It's not unusual for me to be 30 minutes late to work or class. I don't plan ahead like I should.
I misplace things all the time: Keys, phone, ipod, all the time. On top of running late I spend a lot of time looking for my phone or keys in the morning
I get distracted during conversations. My friend makes fun of my forgetfullness, and will stop mid sentence and ask me what he just said, and I can't answer him.
I have a lot of energy. I find it very hard to wind down at night. I sometimes go out to drive at 2am because I can't sleep and feel I have to go somewere. At work I find it almost tortureous to sit in a cubicle for 8 hours.
I just got a dog, and have a hard time keeping up with

My nearest and dearest is required to take Ritalin for ADHD. I was wondering if anyone has tried these alternatives instead, or any alternatives,
Brightspark - http://www.nativeremedies.com/articles/natural-remedies-for-adhd.html
Bio-strath - http://www.bio-strath.naturesanswer.com/
I don't like Ritalin and I feel too people are put onto Ritalin which too me is just a nasty drug that doesn't really fix the problem.
What would you recommend for ADHD
Thank you.

1 out of 10 kids in america take the mind altering drug ritalin. Ritalin is a derivative of cocaine. Some numbers for you: in 1993 UK doctors wrote 3,500 prescriptions for ritalin; by 1996 it was 26,500; in 2006(not including private medicine) it was 250,000 and in 2007 it was 461,000(gee I wonder if dr's. are influenced by pharmacutical companies) this is according to the UK national health services. There are a number of copy cat drugs as well being forced on our children, these include: adderall, concerta, metadate cd, ritalin la, focalin xr and strattera(atomoxetine). The Bush family connected Eli Lilly is heavily involved. Another drug given to children is risperdal which was used on political prisones in the soviet union to extract information. According to a january 2010 issue of the journal of the american academy of child & adolescent physchiaty revealed that risperdal and other drugs mentioned above were being given to children as young as two....disgusting. I was on Strattera (atomoxetine) a year ago for mild ADD. It worked great, with few side effects. I was put on Cymbalta today for a chronic pain condition, and noticed the drug name was duloxetine. I was wondering if they were at all similar. I read that one was an NRI, and one a SNRI, so I'm not sure how close they are.
They reason I am asking is because I have tried 6+ antidepressants for pain, and had to quit them because of nasty side effects.
So I am hoping it is chemically similar to Strattera, which means I should handle it just fine. Can anyone help me? How similar are the two? Am I likely to have sexual side effects like Effexor?

I was diagnosed with Depression and ADD many years ago. I'm on strattera for my ADD and it works well. I was wondering if it also works for depression. I haven't been feeling depressed since I've been taking it but I've also made some life changes that I feel could be the reason for not feeling depressed.
I forgot to take the strattera for 2 days though, and these 2 days I've been very depressed. But I also think that may be due to situational stuff.
So just curious, does strattera help relieve clinical depression/ is it used to relieve clinical depression?

I take adderal maybe once a month at most or if there is a big test coming up. I was told amphetamines can be extremely bad for the body and it's the same thing as methamphetamines. I wouldn't not want to take them anymore if ther that bad but don't try to discourage me I just need to know the facts of that can happen if adderal is taken too often or taken at all. Once again I onlytake maybe once a month on really needed important days, I have taken them 3 times in one week but that's when I was experimenting seeing how the could affect me in different situations

Sorry in advance this will be a looong post ;) But please read.
So first things first. I have been diagnosed with adult ADHD inattentive about 8months ago. I have had problems with focusing, forgetfulness, short fuse temper and a little bit of depression all my life. I have had like 5 different life-changing goals in life which all i dropped after a week. And I do blame ADHD because each time i start something big im enthusiastic about it. I put a lot of work in it and after a week or two i lost the drive and eventually I drop it. And so on done it many times with the same things. I also did not do well at school and the teachers always said that I don't live up to my potential. Now as and adult I have changed jobs many times. Some of the times because I just get tired of the job I lose any interest in it. I get depressed doing my job more and more until I finally quit and find another one. Now for the past 4 weeks i have had my first medication for it which is Strattera.
So 1st day

I have ADHD
Focalin (Dexmethylphenidate) gave me bad headaches and abdominal pain, with increased anxiety
Adderall (Dextroamphetamine/Levoamphetamine) seems not to be as potent as it should be
Strattera (Atomoxetine) impaired my cognitive ability, depressed me, made me lose motivation for everything
Now, I know I've only had 3 prescribed medications, BUT... each of those has that active ingredient in 2 other meds for ADHD
example:
Adderall is 100% Dextroamphetamine
Dexedrine is 100% Dextroamphetamine
Dextrostat is 100% Dextroamphetamine
Vyvanse is 40% Dextroamphetamine
Ritalin is 50% Dexmethylphenidate
Concerta is 50% Dexmethylphenidate
Focalin is 100% Dexmethylphenidate
Basically, the only thing left is Desoxyn
But because it is (extremely low dose) dextromethamphetamine... I'm nervous about bringing it up with my psychiatrist

I have chronic insomnia, and possibly sleep apnea. My insomnia is caused by anxiety mostly (which is just the way I am it's not caused by anything I can emotionally change). I live in Canada if that helps with brands. I've recently started evaluation to see whats going on with me and apparently I have chronic depression. A lot of shit happened in my past and I did a lot of hard drugs about a year ago which seems to have permanently fried my brain... :/ I've talked things through for years in therapy and it doesn't change my mental state so now they are experimenting with medication -particularly sleeping medications and ADHD/ADD meds. I use the ADHD/ADD so I can function at school and act normal (depression). Sleeping aids for mostly anxiety. Thanks
To clarify - best = strong

Why dont they prescribe non-stimulants (which are apparently safer first?
Examples of Medications for ADHD
Stimulants: Adderall, Concerta, Ritalin, and Vyvanse
Non-stimulants: Strattera and Intuniv
I understand that stimulants may be a good business because they are more addictive. But other than money, there must be another reason why psychiatrists prefer to prescribe stimulants over non-stimulants. Psychiatrists can't be that inhuman!

I have ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and currently take Atomoxetine and another tablet which I think is called Concerta XL or something. Recently I have been stopping taking one of the tablets for the weekend so the doctor could see if it improved my appetite.
Ever since I have been taken off for the weekend I have started having these weird thoughts where I daydream or imagine myself hurting myself and others and sometimes even killing people.. I don't *want* to hurt or kill anyone, which is why these thoughts are bothering me. It tends to happen when I'm in a situation where I could potentially cause damage, like driving in a car (Where I day dreamt about grabbing the wheel, driving us off a bridge) or when holding objects (Like a hammer, where I imagined hitting someone and running) - I get the feeling of panic immediately after I have these thoughts as if I've done it, and it genuinely scares me - I had a car crash in February of this year and I seem to have ch

I dont think they are FDA approved in the US but i heard they are being used in the UK now.

Why does marijuana effect me differently than others? When I smoke my mind slows down to where I can think clearly, mental cognition improves, and my impulsivity lowers. I can actually read books and do math when I'm high. Granted I can only smoke half a gram a day, or else I'm obliterated.
Why is it that marijuana works far better than any other stimulant or SNRI I've taken? I was on really high doses of dexedrine, adderall, and ritalin - all to no avail. Psychologists recommended marijuana, but, psychiatrists don't. I don't understand. I cannot find any clinical trials of marijuana for adhd patients. Yet, california has passed legislation to make marijuana available for adhd patients. WTF?
Patrick, I've tried 6 different stimulants. They didn't work, or, worked to some degree but made me a anxious zombie. Only positive thing I have to say is the Adderall 5mg XR's put me to sleep.
Thanks patrick for the extra detail you put into your answer. I've taken Straterra, Wellbutrin, Ef

will taking dexamphetamine improve my memory if i am to study with it all day and then sit the exam the next day? will i need to take the same dose or can i take less or even none on exam day to ensure i remember things?
its a multiple choice exam so i only need a good passive memory.
please no stupid answers like dont take it because i already am going to anyway because i cant study/focus for long periods of time without something (usually prescribed modafinil and have for other things but my resistant grows too quickly for like ritalin, etc and modafinil barely does anythng)

I'm 26 now getting ready to turn 27 in August. Recently the symptoms have been disrupting my work. I've been thinking about going back on medication after ten years, but first I want to know if there are any other ways you can treat/cope with ADD/ADHD without using medication (ritalin/concerta).

so basically-ive been on strattera for a few years now, i was originally put on it because i kept getting super nauseous, and was anxious the second i woke up.. strattera helped ALOT with this, but ive had to slowly up my dose to 100mg at night. if i forget to take it, i get depressed and nauseous, and feel like i dont deserve things others do? which is weird.. i used to be very very sweet and easy going, but gradually ive been acting kindof b*itchy and its been getting worse and worse.. considering i started strattera when i was a young teen, now 19.. i figured maybe ive just changed like everyone does.. but im not so sure thats the case anymore. i can be SO mean to the people i care alot about, and i realize that later and get upset. i also get easily frustrated and refuse to deal with anything thats not a fun topic because i get mad so easily, and im pretty tired all the time. i always read things about strattera making people want to commit suicide (dont get me wrong im no where
