Open Question: can 12 year old boy be paranoid schizophrenic?
(Fri, 20 Nov 2009 22:28:03 GMT)
grandson has ADHD, Depression and also hears voices. Currently taking Adderall, Celexa and Geodon. Last nite he began to "see' things that were not there and said that imaginary things lept laughing at him. This was after he had taken last dose of meds and when he is usually in a good place. Took a lot of comforting to calm him down and it took a long time for him to go to sleep.

Resolved Question: WHY am I gaining so much weight?
(Sun, 15 Nov 2009 07:32:19 GMT)
I have a terribly bad back, so I can't do ANY exercises excluding hand exercises, but that doesn't help me lose weight. However, some people say I'm starving myself (which I'm not) because I hardly eat anything. I'm just not really ever hungry. On an average day, I'll probably eat a bowl of soup, a bagel, a sandwich. One of those things. But only once a day, meaning I only eat one little thing a day. I've been having this loss of appetite for 6 months now, and I've GAINED 30 lbs!!! It just d

(Sat, 14 Nov 2009 11:13:40 GMT)
I have DID with multiple personalities. One is very malevolent, and want to hurt others and me. It has hurt my kids and even myself(hitting my head and trying to etch out loser in me). I hear him and my other two personalities in my head. I take Geodon, Klonopin, Anafranil and Trazadone. It helps with some control but still hear them. And at tme of high emotions they get louder and persistent and then i have my alters take control. What can I do to help? My psychiatrist wants me to do thought

Resolved Question: Anyone ever been on Geodon?
(Sat, 14 Nov 2009 01:49:13 GMT)
I'm taking geodon for bipolar disorder. I started a few weeks ago, and I've experienced some pretty bad headaches. The pharmacist's note said that it was a side effect. My question is, do the headaches go away? How long will they last? Please don't answer telling me how awful the drug is. We all know that these medications work differently for everybody, and it isn't all that helpful.

Voting Question: When you have diabetes from a medication?
(Sat, 14 Nov 2009 01:18:30 GMT)
I haven't hit the point of diabetes yet, but I know there are some medications that are labeled to cause hyperglycemia and/or diabetes. I've been on several over the past 2 years (Zyprexa, Seroquel, Risperdal, Geodon, Abilify)(Currently on Invega). Are there any people out there that takes a medication that is associated with this increased risk, if you have diabetes, and if so how do you manage it? I don't want to go off of Invega because it helps my visual hallucinations I get as part of

Resolved Question: How can you be sure you're bipolar, and not just go through normal ups and downs in life?
(Thu, 12 Nov 2009 14:27:46 GMT)
This is what I've found from the Geodon website (part of Pfizer) " In bipolar disorder, periods of high moods are called manic episodes, and times of low moods are called depressive episodes. Some people also have mixed episodes, feeling manic and depressed at the same time." "Symptoms of acute manic or mixed episodes may include: Extremely high or irritable mood Increased energy, activity, and restlessness Racing thoughts or talking very fast Being easily distracted Feeling little need

Voting Question: I was just recently diagnosed with bi-polar. What can I do to lessen the odds of episodes besides medication?
(Wed, 11 Nov 2009 21:36:36 GMT)
I am currently on Geodon and Depakote, which seem to be working well for me. As I've been researching this, I've noticed a lot of people talking about how this disease affects their personal relationships with people. I do not want this whatsoever. What can I do to minimize episodes? My mind races a lot, and sometimes it's hard for me to get a "crazy" idea unstuck in my head. Like I said, the meds are helping with the mood swings, I just want to know, what has worked for YOU? What doesn'

Voting Question: Just wanted your thoughts...psychosis?
(Wed, 11 Nov 2009 07:30:04 GMT)
Last year I was in the hospital for suicidal thoughts. About 5 days after being there I started to get really paranoid and thought people were trying to come after me. And that they would hurt my family to get to me. The only way to save them was to kill myself. After about a month and some geodon i was doing better. Until the past few weeks. It's been slowly starting up again. This week its been the worst. Im so anxious and afraid I'm on the verge of insanity. This morning I heard someone yel

Resolved Question: Is there such a thing as bipolar anxiety?
(Sun, 08 Nov 2009 21:11:10 GMT)
I may be coining a new term here. Basically, I was diagnosed with several anxiety disorders about four years ago and have been on a variety of medications since then: Lexapro, Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta, Seroquel and Abilify (although only briefly at very low dosages), Klonopin and Xanax (very low dosages), and now Neurontin and Geodon. Nothing really works for me. It sucks. I have OCD about many things, from orderliness in my sentence structure to writing down the calories of everything I eat s

When I was about 7 or 8 back in 1998 or 1999 I was diagnosed with adhd and bipolar via mri. I had alot of behavioral issues when I was younger, im 18 now. I have never experienced a manic or depressive episode. In fact I have gone several days without taking my medicine for bipolar and nothing happens except Im unable to go to sleep. Resolved Question: Can psychotic depression get better by itself?
(Mon, 02 Nov 2009 19:14:03 GMT)
I’m a 23-year-old male who has recently been diagnosed with major depression with psychotic features. I was prescribed lexapro and geodon but refused to take them because I heard somewhere that antipsychotics are bad for your heart and lungs and I’m afraid to take them. I also didn’t want to take the anti-depressants because I already tried so many of those with no success whatsoever. Going back to the psychiatrist would be pointless because I’m refusing her medications. One last thing is tha

Resolved Question: Why does my Dr refuse to give me Klonopin?
(Sun, 01 Nov 2009 07:21:10 GMT)
I have no idea why my dr will not prescribe me klonopin when I already know it works well for me. She gives me other bullshit with severe side effects instead. I keep telling her I was on the drug for 2 years and it worked well to help me sleep and didn't give me side effects but she keeps saying, "That's the drug we cant give you". I was on it the first time I saw her and she said, "That's habit forming, I don't want you to have it anymore. You're going to take zoloft instead." Zoloft made me

Resolved Question: What can I substitute for a sedative? 3 Tylenol flu crushed maybe?

And I make myself get up at a decent hour too (8-11) My body is physically tired and I am yawning but I can't drift off. Chamomile tea does nothing for me and I have even tried boiling excess amounts and eating the straight herbs. I will never be a successful adult if I can't get a good nights rest and my dr won't give me anything but Geodon for it. That stuff doesn't make me sleepy any

Resolved Question: Can bipolar disorder patients be symptom free?
(Fri, 16 Oct 2009 21:34:26 GMT)
My step-daughter was diagnosed bipolar in 2007. In 2008 a doctor said he thought she was misdiagnosed and weaned her off the meds. She was off the meds from June 2008-present. She was symptom free the whole time. She had "normal" teenage girl issues (she is 15 1/2), but nothing as I have read with bipolar disorder. We are now about to begin a custody battle since she has said she wants to live with her father and I. She came to our home and refused to go home one weekend. My husband took her t

Voting Question: Geodon only for short term?
(Thu, 15 Oct 2009 22:55:12 GMT)
I have a friend who is being treated through medicaid. I don't feel she is getting quality care and think she is over medicated. She is on Lamictal, Effexor, Wellbutrin and Geodon. The drug I take most issue with is Geodon. Isn't Geodon used only for short term treatment of acute agitation in schizophrenia and/or bipolar mania? Not meant for long term maintenance?

Resolved Question: Am I having and "episode" if my regular sleeping pills won't make me sleep and I'm taking more than a few?
(Tue, 06 Oct 2009 06:37:19 GMT)
I take Geodon now for sleep, and it always knocks me off my feet (literally on one occasion) and I'm out for a solid 8 hours. I mean, that stuff hits me really hard. Tonight it didn't do shit. I don't feel anything! So I took some of my left over Seroquel. First one made me feel a little weird, like half of an over the counter sleeping pill, but I couldn't sleep. I took another one and don't feel a thing My body and head feel tired, I want to sleep but I can't. I lay my head on the pill

Resolved Question: WTF is this? Altered dimension, paranoia, or nutcase?
(Wed, 30 Sep 2009 22:52:42 GMT)
Ever since been 15 years old, I' ve lost touch with reality, to the point where I wake up and see everything around me as the inside of a dream. Ever since then, i've lost the ability to experience emotion, everything seems doll, i see people telling me about having fun or being love and then i say i wonder what the heck is that like? Resolved Question: What reason does a doctor have for doing this?
(Fri, 18 Sep 2009 18:43:55 GMT)
I need help sleeping but my Dr. refuses to give me any sort of sleeping pill. She will not give me anything that is designed to help you sleep. Instead she makes me try other drugs that just have a side effect of sleep: Vistaril, geodon, seroquel, trazodone. Why? Why can't she just give me something thats effective. I had serious side effects to 2 of those drugs and still she will not give me any sleeping pills or anything that is a controlled substance.

Resolved Question: Zyprexa for bipolar disorder?
(Wed, 16 Sep 2009 01:18:30 GMT)
Do you take Zyprexa for bipolar disorder (currently)? If so, does it work for you? What dosage are you on? What side effects do you get? For certain side effects do you take a medication to counteract it? Do you feel the benefits of the medicine outways the potential risks? If you could answer as many questions as you can that would be most helpful for me as I'm debating using Zyprexa for bipolar disorder. Is medicine for Bipolar II Disorder (I'm on Geodon right now) suppose to make you feel normal like regular people or is it suppose to give you a high that makes you feel better than normal people? My doctor said it would make me feel "mellow" with time. Is that "normal" or a high provided by the medicine that normal people do not feel? I'm asking this question because while I have been treated for this, I've never personally seen a written diagnosis.
