Voting Question: What medications are normally prescribed for depression with psychotic features?
(Tue, 17 Nov 2009 21:18:37 GMT)
My boyfriend recently spent a week in a psyche ward with the diagnosis of major depression with psychotic features. While he was a patient there they started him on lexapro, haldol, cogentin, and seroquil. One or more of the medications were prescribed to treat side effects of the other medications. Today his psychiatrist prescribed xanax, abilify, and trazodine in addition to lexapro, haldol, and cogentin and took him off seroquil. So he will be taking 5 medications daily, and the haldol as n

Voting Question: I got Haldol to take me out of my mixed Bipolar state, but now I'm horribly restless?
(Tue, 03 Nov 2009 23:38:10 GMT)
I took Haldol at about 11:00 last night before I went to bed like the docotor told me to do. I woke up this morning and now I feel very restless and it feels almost impossible to sit still. I'm also having annoying muscle twitching. I called my doctor, but he didn't answer so I just left a message. Are these normal side effects? Thank you ..

Resolved Question: How did Where The Wild Things Are manage to get a PG rating?
(Sat, 17 Oct 2009 06:04:37 GMT)
I have never seen a more disturbing group of ideas labelled PG. Max in the movie acts more like a child of the corn than an average kid. I could never imagine the scenario where a 3rd or 4th grader would bite his mother. The kid needs a psychiatrist and I am not one to recommend medication in pediatrics but Haldol 2.5 mg IM stat came to my head early in the movie. http://movies.yahoo.com/mvc/drv?mid=1808412037&s=rc_d&ys=uVXIQ8YFipm8eSYLrjUkaw-- read the reviews here if you think this is ju

Resolved Question: Is Anita Dunn mentally deranged?
(Fri, 16 Oct 2009 17:50:21 GMT)
I did a search this morning and see that a number of medical professionals have left comments at numerous blogs stating that Annita Dunn's lip pursing and tongue thrusting behavior is a sign that she's taking a powerful class of tranquilizers like Thorazine or Haldol. To quote one psychiatrist "I'm an expert in detecting mental illness simply by looking at a person's face and that woman is mentally unhinged." I sent an email to Glenn Beck's personal email informing him of that. Don't be sur

Resolved Question: Need help from expert on chronic headaches?
(Sat, 26 Sep 2009 14:11:37 GMT)
I know this is LONG, but if you know anything about headaches (professionally), espcially MD/experts/specialists PLEASE read. For the past 10 years, I have been battling progressively worsening migraines/tension headaches. (I can pretty much take care of the tensions with TENS unit, heat and regular massages) but the migraines occur 3-5+ times per week and are debilitating. I have been on 78 different medications- preventatives, abortives, narcotics, psychiatric meds as well pure oxygen), pre

Resolved Question: Please can someone help with the unknown "attacks" I have medically or possible offer some advice?
(Fri, 25 Sep 2009 23:41:33 GMT)
I don't want to go into too much detail, but I had been to the Univ Of Mich hospital in Ann Arbor, MI for what at the time we had thought was NMS (Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome), later confirmed by a neurologist as not NMS. In short terms, my body had started to VERY violently shake and my Heartrate may have been higher even, but my mother and the attending doctor had confirmed from the heart machine that I had a pulse of "well over 220 beats per minute". I have had several "attacks" as such

Resolved Question: shoudl I take another med, if yes, which one?
(Fri, 18 Sep 2009 00:41:53 GMT)
I take haldol since a year. I can read, not too much weight gain, but nomore ability to have an orgasm. The good thing is that I can read and weigh 120 insed of my usual 104, which is better than 130-140 with the other meds. what's also good is that I can read....but well the sex thing is a bother. I took amisulprid (solian), fluanxol, risperdal, seroquel (weight gain), leponex before. also abilify and invega which had no effect at all. geodon is not available here. serdolect I had for a coup

Resolved Question: Keep taking benzos or keep feeling like crap?
(Thu, 17 Sep 2009 23:46:45 GMT)
I'm at a breaking point. I am 27 years old and my two diagnoses are: extreme social anxiety disorder, and moderate generalized anxiety disorder. When I am unmedicated, I feel completely worthless. Most of the time while I am at work, I simply close my office door and avoid the phone. I cringe whenever it rings and nearly freak out when my boss or a coworker comes in to talk to me. When I am home, I basically sit on my bed... in my bedroom... playing on my laptop... like I am now. I freak out

(Wed, 09 Sep 2009 19:52:35 GMT)
I've been taking haldol 1mg a day for 7 years and I want to quit it. I also take 30mg of ritalin and 1mg of ativan a day. However, everytime I try to quit the haldol, taking ritalin or caffeine tends to make me uncomfortable when the haldol is withdrawing from my body. Why is that?

Resolved Question: How Haldol works and side effects?
(Sat, 05 Sep 2009 16:23:54 GMT)
it says it "blocks dopamine receptors in the CNS" So since the dopamine is blocked and cant attach to the receptors, does it mean that you will have MORE free floating dopamine? Or LESS dopamine? whats the goal? The side effects are anticholinergic because dopamine is anticholinergic if dopamine is blocked, then why do you have anticholinergic side effects? Dopamine is anticholinergic and its blocked

i just got a prescription from my doctor for haldol 10mgx60 to take once a day. but i have a job interview tomorrow afternoon. from what i have read on the internet is that this is a "major tranquilizer" and is similar to taking a strong benzo. and i am afraid to take it right now because i don't want to appear to be under the influence tomorrow. so, should i wait one more day to take it or should i take it now ? and how long will the effects last ? and will this keep me awake tonight ? i was

Resolved Question: Haldol did not completely respond to auditory hallucinations. Is this not schizophrenia?
(Mon, 31 Aug 2009 03:49:33 GMT)
A person since the age of 17 has had auditory hallucinations in soberness. He is now 22. He has many schizophrenic symptoms, basically all of them. Examples would be delusions and paranoia, twitching of the arms and legs, extreme anxiety, racing thoughts, insomnia, ect. More than I can list. He has been taking haldol for only about two weeks, but still has some auditory hallucinations, although not as severe as before. It is also a small dose. Because the Haldol did not completely respond to

Resolved Question: Would a shot of haldol help me?
(Wed, 05 Aug 2009 23:17:25 GMT)
I saw a new psych today. I am addicted to benzos and his solution to my wanting a safe taper down schedule? Switching me from Xanax to Klonopin and writing down a taper schedule that would involve 50 pills over 28 days, but only prescribing 30 pills. Also he told me I would be better served by a case manager than him, so I'm feeling rejected and even crazier than I thought I was. I'm at work crying, sdnapping a rubber band on my wrist repeatedly to try to keep from cutting, having trouble cat

About a year ago, I was injected with the drug HALDOL (an antipsychotic, or neuroleptic). I was admitted into a psych ward because I was having some major life issues and needed help. To calm me down, the doctor administered (without telling me what it was) a dose of haldol (i do not know how much). This was at about 10 am. Around 1 pm, i started showing weird symptoms like involuntary movements of me back, tounge, face, and i was talking like I was mentally retarded. I told the nurses on duty

What does haldol do to normal people? Do people abuse haldol like other drugs? Does the fact that haldol makes my bad thoughts go away mean I am definately mentally ill, or does it do that for everyone? If someone who didn't have psych issues took haldol, what would they experience?
Haldol Side Effects
