Voting Question: Please help with my migraines, any advice is greatly appreciated?
(Tue, 17 Nov 2009 17:53:49 GMT)
Here is a bit of my history - I am 30 years old, and have had migraines for over 12 years. They have recently become stronger and more frequent. I get them about 2-3 times a week and usually take relpax but that med can only be taken Up to 3 times a week. When I run out, I have no defense agains them. I try to sleep consistently, not skip meals etc. I have tried other meds (imitrex, frova etc) but relpax is the best except I get my migraines a lot more frequent and the meds never last. So

Voting Question: I get deathly Migraines during my period, please help?
(Fri, 13 Nov 2009 03:40:58 GMT)
Ive tried taking Midol, Pamprin, Excedrin Migraine, every other (over the counter) Migraine medicine. And the prescription Imitrex (for Migraines). Usually the Imitrex will work for my Migraines, but not when they are during my period. Nothing makes me feel better, and i'm in constant pain for 5-7 days. I have no insurance either. BTW, I put this in the P&S area, cause I didnt get any answers in the health dept. Ive had MRI's, CT Scans, and the found Cysts in my sinus cavities, and I had sur

I have been on Imitrex since 2000. I know it has affected my heart, but it seems to be the only medication that has worked for me. I feel like I'm between a rock and a hard place! Having an excruciating migraine for 2 days or taking Imitrex and knowingly damaging my heart. Can someone help, please.

Resolved Question: Migraine Solutions and Side Effects?
(Sat, 17 Oct 2009 22:45:52 GMT)
Please tell me people, have you found any migraine prophylactic that really helps reduce your migraines and that does not have severe side effects? Prophylactic is NOT Imitrex or Excedrin or any crisis med. Prophylactic is something you take daily to prevent migraines for people who get them too frequently. Topamax made me crazy. Inderal made me short of breath and depressed. Verapamil caused hair loss. Depakote made me sleepy, fat, and caused hair loss too... Help, please. I have way t

As of right now my migraine has been going on for 72 hours, Imitrex does but a small dent in it, makes it a bit more tolerable but how do I have this go away, any advise. Just ran out of imitrex too cause they only give you 9 tablets in a case, can't refill till monday. Today even opiate medication does not get rid of it, over the last 9 hours Ive taken 50mg oxycodone and it makes it so I feel better but I feel it in the background still. ive always had bad headaches, haven't had a migrai

Voting Question: Can someone please help? I have severe headaches (migraines) and constant acid indigestion, any suggestions?
(Wed, 07 Oct 2009 14:17:15 GMT)
I am a 30 year old mother of 4 and I am uninsured. About 6 months ago I woke up with the worst headache of my life, for 6 weeks from that day I had a constant headache, no medicine would make it go away, I finally went to the Dr and he said tried to control it with a beta blocker, that didn't work, then he ordered a CT scan (which cost $900 I didn't have) and it came back fine as well, finally he prescribed an anticonvulsant as a daily regimen to prevent migraines and Imitrex to take when I g

Resolved Question: How do you know when it is a migraine?
(Wed, 30 Sep 2009 20:40:56 GMT)

Resolved Question: Need help from expert on chronic headaches?
(Sat, 26 Sep 2009 14:11:37 GMT)
I know this is LONG, but if you know anything about headaches (professionally), espcially MD/experts/specialists PLEASE read. For the past 10 years, I have been battling progressively worsening migraines/tension headaches. (I can pretty much take care of the tensions with TENS unit, heat and regular massages) but the migraines occur 3-5+ times per week and are debilitating. I have been on 78 different medications- preventatives, abortives, narcotics, psychiatric meds as well pure oxygen), pre

Resolved Question: Are there any migraine meds that don't counteract with hormonal birth control?
(Wed, 16 Sep 2009 19:30:55 GMT)
My insurance won't cover Imitrex, so I have no clue if that one does. But my doctor gave me Fioricet again, when I got it filled at the pharmacy I was told it will make my birth control ineffective if I take it while having a migraine =/.... What the hell! I was never told this before.

Resolved Question: why does Xanax help my headaches when nothing else has?
(Thu, 03 Sep 2009 02:05:25 GMT)
I've had chronic daily headache for over a year now and have tried tricyclics, beta blockers, seizure meds, migraine meds (imitrex, axert), and OTCs. No help and/or unbearable side effects. Narcotics provide some relief, but with obvious drawbacks. But if I take .5 mg xanax every night, it relieves my headaches for about 20 hours. (add: it just seems weird that stress, which I'm not noticing, is causing such daily debilitating pain...is there no other explanation?)

Voting Question: Could it be withdrawals?
(Fri, 14 Aug 2009 00:45:09 GMT)
I have decided to stop smoking and drinking caffeine. Yesterday morning I had my last cigarette and glass of sweet tea and starting last night I have had an off and on headache. It was pretty easy at first to combat it, but today it has gotten progressively worse and not even a prescription for Imitrex has been able to offer much relief. Could it be withdrawals from the nicotine and caffiene giving me problems or does that stuff even exist?

Resolved Question: Know any good home remedies for a 29 wk pregnant woman w/ a migraine?
(Fri, 07 Aug 2009 21:16:41 GMT)
I have prescription Imitrex, it helps after it makes me sick, which they said was normal, but I'm not supposed to keep taking it after I take two pills. I can take tylenol, and I've done that, but that barely touches it. I'm sitting in the dark, barely able to see to write this, and when I get done I'm getting away from this bright screen. As far as remedies I mean are there certain foods you eat or avoid when you have a migraine. I don't mean meds, I'm not risking my baby. Thanks for any advi

Resolved Question: When I get a headache or migraine, the veins in my temples swell. I get horrible migraines- cause?
(Wed, 05 Aug 2009 14:24:40 GMT)
I've been in the emergency room for extreme migraine pain and nobody can offer me any sort of answers. I've tried Imitrex, Treximet, MaxAlt, Darvocet and Vicodin and nothing takes away the pain or helps the vein swelling. The only thing that worked last time was going to the ER, being on an IV with morphine, compazine and fluids, and just sleeping there. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Voting Question: Can marijuana help my migraines?
(Thu, 30 Jul 2009 09:12:17 GMT)
I've heard that studies support weed as a cure for migraine headaches, but I've also heard that weed can intensify the pain if it's the wrong strain. I've tried all sorts of pharmaceuticals and many times nothing seems to work except for an IV full of painkillers and intravenous Imitrex, which obviously requires a trip to the ER. Any advice? when I say "pharmaceuticals" I mean migraine meds, like Imitrex, Relpax, Topamax, etc. I don't take narcotic painkillers (vicodin, hydrocodone). When I go

I went to the ER on Sunday because my doctor was not open. I had the worst migraine of my life. Uncontrollable vomiting, near blindness, muscle weakness. I took my imitrex and it did not work. I don't go to the emergency room anymore for my headaches because all they ever give me is Vicodin, which does not help at all. I have been told by doctors that I have migraine headaches which, I already know. I am allergic to Imitrex, a migraine Rx, and I have tried Elavil when I was in High School which also didnt really help. Any suggestions as to what Rx might help with the pain, as I have said, almost 3 weeks now that I have had this headache. So I guess you can say that I have chronic da

Voting Question: Still unsure of what it is?
(Sat, 18 Jul 2009 05:26:52 GMT)
I've been having pains in my right eye since September or August of 2008. They start off like a mild headache, but instead of effecting my head they effect only my right eye, and then gradually the pain gets worse. When the episode of pain is occurring my right eye feels larger and harder than the left and a little bit of pressure on the eye seems to help some. There's no nausea or sensitivity to light, and only once was my vision distorted. In April I went to see a general practitioner to fi

Voting Question: How many doses of Tylenol is it safe to take to avoid rebound headaches?
(Tue, 14 Jul 2009 20:36:03 GMT)
I suffer from chronic headaches which ofter lead to migraines. I used to take Excedrin Migraine until my nose started bleeding because of the Aspirin in the drug. Advil does not work for me anymore, so I switched to Excedrin Tension which is Acetaminophen and Caffeine. I always take the recommended dosages. It seems to work most of the time, but when nothing works, I take 100mg of Imitrex. I get headaches about 2 weeks worth of every month and I average about 3 dosages of Excedrin Tension p

Resolved Question: Do you have migraines with auras?
(Mon, 13 Jul 2009 00:06:38 GMT)
I've seen my family doctor, 4 neurologists, my eye doctor and been on about just as many medications that haven't helped (Topamax, elavil, pamalor, relpax, imitrex). I've had an MRI and an EEG. My migraines aren't always painful, but I see auras everyday. Mostly the headache is just there, leaving me able to function for the most part. Anyone have similar experiences? Do you take alternatives to medication?

Voting Question: Suffering from Migraines, 8 Weeks Pregnant, Concerned about Medication?
(Tue, 07 Jul 2009 18:31:33 GMT)
I am 8 weeks pregnant. I generally suffer from bad migraines but during the first few weeks of pregnancy, the migraines grow intensely worse. Doctors say it's the increase in estrogen. I would agree with that. Tylenol never will and never has worked to cure my headaches. It seems to only make it worse. So, I take Oxycodone, 5/325 to try and keep the migraines from getting really bad. Occassionally, they do not work. My doctor said it was okay to take Imitrex if I needed it. It is the

Resolved Question: What is the strongest medication for severe migraines?
(Thu, 02 Jul 2009 17:12:10 GMT)
I have had an MRI and there is nothing like a tumor or anything that would explain my migraines, but I get them frequently. If something makes me cry, even if it's just for a minute or so and then I stop, a migraine sets in. These migraines last sometimes 24 hours and lead to nausea and such intense pain that I always feel convinced the "I'm dying". Of course, logically I know that I'll be okay but it's that type of intense physical pain that you can't imagine getting through. Don't even b

Resolved Question: I was recently prescribed Imitrex for migraines and have a problem- please help!?
(Tue, 30 Jun 2009 23:23:26 GMT)
I took Imitrex today for the first time, and then went to choir rehearsal. During the middle of it, I had the sudden urge to urinate, which continued throughout the rest of the rehearsal. When I got back, I finally went, and I noticed a little bit of blood in my urine. I hadn't drank much all day, and went just before I left. Could the Imitrex have anything to do with it?
