Resolved Question: Do you have rheumatoid arthritis or know some one who does ?
(Mon, 31 Aug 2009 15:21:50 GMT)
5 years ago I was diagnosed with advanced rheumatoid arthritis. At the time I was under the care of a total quack !!! He treated me strictly with 3 medicines only. 1). high doses of steroids 2). vicodin 3). asprin Yup , after a year of suffering thinking he knew his stuff I ended up in the emergency room unable to walk any more and huge lumpy nodules growing near all my joint. It looked like I had 3 elbows on one arm at one point. I was only 43 at the time and I felt like the elephant man. Ev

Resolved Question: Drugs falling under Part B -- covered by med supp insurance?
(Fri, 24 Apr 2009 13:54:00 GMT)
I know a medicare advantage plan requires me to pay a 20% co-pay for drugs covered under part b medicines. But I understand that if I have basic medicare along with a medigap policy (either plan f or J), it will take care of all the part b meds. Do you know if i will need to pay a co-pay? I asked the medical billing department at me doctor's office but she was really hesitant to tell me. Oh, in case it matters: it is Orencia -- infusions for rheumatoid arthritis -- my doctor's office does

Resolved Question: need info on medicare coverage for Orencia?
(Mon, 30 Mar 2009 20:33:29 GMT)
Orencia is saying this drugs falls under medicare's Part B drugs. But the Part D plan i'm looking at says it's a tier 4 drug. I am trying to find out what i'm going to have to pay. Someone says their doctor's nurse gives him his infusion and it's all covered by medicare. Another person says they have to pay 33% co-pay. That's a huge difference since this drug costs $1600/month! Anybody's knowledge/experience with this drug would be greatly appreciated.

Resolved Question: How to Stave Off The Bad Side Effects of Biologic Drugs?
(Mon, 13 Oct 2008 15:26:25 GMT)
We know the black-box warnings on drugs like Humira or Orencia that often used to fight advanced RA. The warnings say something about serious infections, blood disorders, and in a few cases, cancers like lymphoma, that may happen with this those drugs. This is because this class of drugs are immunosuppresives, so is it, I guess, extremely important to do things like ingest 2000 mg of Vitamin C and 8 glasses of orange juice every day to compensate for this immunosuppresive activity.

Resolved Question: Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus...is there anyone like me?
(Sun, 06 Apr 2008 13:39:00 GMT)
I'm 29...with Rhuematoid Arthritis and Lupus. I was a healthy athletic person until the age of 25. I just woke up one morning with a lot of pain in my neck and back and flu like symptoms. I assumed the neck and back pain was from a horse accident in 1996(landed on my head)...I did the Hunter Jumper stuff age 6 to 23. I had been seeing chiropractors since then and assumed that was what was wrong with me. I saw a doctor after my problem had gotten worse over the course of a year. I had horrible

Resolved Question: Do have any prescription drug suggestions for Rheumatoid Arthritis? What do you think about Enbrel?
(Mon, 25 Feb 2008 15:16:28 GMT)
I am currently unsatisfied with my treatment. I am taking hydroxychloriquine & asulfasalizine [spelling is most definately wrong]. I was hopeful when I saw an ad for Orencia, however it is not yet covered under my health plan. I am looking for suggestions for treatments that have worked for other RA sufferers.

Resolved Question: Immunity Biology question...Please help?
(Wed, 07 Nov 2007 02:02:37 GMT)
Innate immunity regulates the adaptice immune system. Dendric cells (DC) must express both antigen fragment and a co-receptor called B7 to T cells. If a receptor called CD28 is linked to B7, then the T cell is activated. However if a second group of receptors on the T cell called CTLA-4 binds B7, then the T cell is inactivated. A new drug called abatacept or Orencia was recently approved for the treatment of rhumatoid arthritis. The drug is a fragment of CTLA-4 linked to a fragment of an andib
