Open Question: Would failing to eat for a week lower blood pressure?
(Sun, 22 Nov 2009 06:19:56 GMT)
I'm due to undergo a blood check and brief medical exam before beginning a new medication. I know the drug can't be prescribed if the patient has low blood pressure, high blood sugar or poor liver function. Its possible that I wont have eaten for 3 or 4 days before the test is taken, will this give a false reading and therefore prevent me from receiving the treatment? If so how many hours before the test must I eat to raise blood pressure again? Would this make blood sugar too high? Please d

Resolved Question: How long would it usually take for QUETIAPINE to reduce psychotic symptoms?
(Fri, 20 Nov 2009 04:38:06 GMT)
I know it'll vary from person to person but in general terms how long would you expect it to take to work (if it's going to) is it likely to be a week, weeks or months. Will the psychosis instantly disappear or will it gradually reduce? The psychosis is relatively mild, infrequent visual hallucinations, the feeling of bugs under the skin and audio hallucinations. I'm due to start taking it in the next week, I'd just like to know how a recovery is likely to progress. thanks in advance

Resolved Question: Has anyone benefited from Quetiapine?
(Thu, 05 Nov 2009 11:21:16 GMT)
I have just began a course of quietapine 25 mg (aka seroquel). I have not been diagnosed with an illness yet, and refused medication 6 months ago. I have been having psychotherapy since. I didn't want to take any medication previously as I am apprehensive about becoming dependant upon them. I went for a review appointment yesterday and the consultant recommended this medication, and more individual sessions. She also suggested group day-care treatment. I am just curious to hear about other pe

(Sat, 24 Oct 2009 17:42:50 GMT)
I have been on quetiapine before and I went from 7 stone to 13 stone in two months, this made me so self concious which did not help me mentally at all. I do not want this to happen again. At the moment I am on lamotragine, quetiapine, larazapam, haliprodol, codeine phosphate, and loads more the plan is to decrease some of my drugs as they are not helping me and put me on lithium instead. I would really value peoples experiences of being on lithium, not only if it has made them gain weight but

(Tue, 29 Sep 2009 06:33:13 GMT)
I am far from an expert in the field, but do have some limited knowledge of medications. I am concerned that my sister is receiving too much medications and its seriously impacting on her mental functioning. My sis has some mental health concerns over the past 10 years or so..she is not dangerous to herself or anyone else. She was recently assessed at a hospital- psychiatrist and put on the following drugs..she is now classified as demented over the past six weeks and her cognitive functioning

Resolved Question: How do I lower paranoia?
(Wed, 16 Sep 2009 05:32:25 GMT)
Every time I am in a public area paranoia hits me hard. It hits so hard It is noticeable. People think I am high. Ironically, the reason I am paranoid in the first place is is for the same predicament. But I am not on any drugs except prescribed Quetiapine, but I doubt that is what is causing it. It has been getting better, but how do I lower my paranoia to eliminate such nonsense. Note: I also feel very dizzy and anxious when around other people, and inevitably get tired for wasting so much m

Resolved Question: Why do I feel this way?
(Sat, 12 Sep 2009 06:52:37 GMT)
My day usually depends on how well I sleep. Not just for a while, I mean for the whole day! The thing is I average about 9-10 hours of sleep per day. Why sometimes I wake up and feel dizzy, drowsy/ anxious, and generally confused throughout the whole day? And other days when I wake up, I feel perfectly fine. I have tried to observe what I have been doing differently per day, but I don't really see the difference. I take one 25mg of Quetiapine per night, as prescribed. So...?

(Sun, 23 Aug 2009 02:02:17 GMT)

Resolved Question: What do these mood stabilizers have to do with sensory issues?
(Mon, 13 Jul 2009 03:46:07 GMT)
I was prescribed valproic acid and quetiapine (Seroquel in the USA). According to my research, both are mood stabilizers used for epilepsy and bipolar disorder. The thing is, I don't fit in any known mood disorder (at least in the DSM-IV). Actually, I'm the most emotionally stable person I know. I just have trouble focusing because I get very distracted by noises and people in general. Oh, and insomnia. I've always been interested in medicine and how the brain works, so I'm asking this out o

Resolved Question: Please help...? Life seems so pointless with no future?
(Mon, 18 May 2009 12:45:39 GMT)
I had a breakdown at the end of last year, and was diagnosed as bipolar (probably had it since very young). I was prescribed Zyprexa (olanzapine) then Seroquel (quetiapine). And also Epilim (sodium valproate; depakote in US I think) I have gone from being slim to being clinically obese. Because of this I stopped my meds, and when given steroids went manic, followed by a mixed episode, and ended back in crisis care. I am apparently 'classic bipolar' though have no idea of what that means. I'

Resolved Question: Risperidone... anyone had it?
(Fri, 24 Apr 2009 14:36:22 GMT)
I posted questions yesterday regarding medications and my psychiatrist not listening. I have agreed to take the valproate as a mood stabiliser (for bipolar) but instead of just letting me stop quetiapine he has put me on risperidone another antipsychotic. I knew nothing about this drug and assumed it would be weight neutral, I've since discovered it is not. Is is worth not taking it and sticking with the sodium valproate (epilim) as a mono therapy? Since starting the quetiapine my BMI has

Resolved Question: Trouble with medication for bipolar?
(Thu, 23 Apr 2009 15:03:58 GMT)
I'm currently attending day hospital due to a relapse with bipolar (I stopped my meds, went manic with steroids, and crashed with a mixed episode). Part of the reason I have trouble with taking the meds is I am unhappy with potential side effects; my outpatient pscyh did agree to look at changing when i was stable, but as I felt so good I didn't take the meds. I also have trouble accepting the diagnosis. The psychiatrist at the hospital refuses to listen to my concerns and twists my words.
