I'm 16, and had asthma as a child but it was never really bad, I had a brown pump but rarely used it. Last June I had pneumonia which resulted in my asthma coming back, much worse this time. I'm currently using seretide (purple inhaler) plus taking my blue salbutamol pump about 3x a day. I was put on a course of corticosteroids in march due to a flare-up of symptoms, and last week ended up in an ambulance on 4 rounds of nebulizers and then corticosteroids after having a severe asthma attack at school. Why is my asthma so bad now? It's taking over my life...

ever since i used the inhaler one time... and this started... as soon as i do any kind of physical activity i start getting vibrations... muscle vibrations, I can feel my heart beating very hard all over my body, in thighs, arms, hands, head, also starting to feel exhausted altough that might be due to lack of sleep. Vein pounding would be the best word to describe it with.
have done ekg and blood tests and nothing wrong that can cause this
i forgot to add this doesn't go away completely with rest, its been there for the past week.. exercise just makes it worse

10 years ago I was told that I have COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and was given medication for it (Tiotropium bromide).
Yesterday I found out that this was a false diagnosis and that I have been taking the medication for no reason.
I do have Asthma and take Salbutamol and Seretide 500 for that.
Can I sue the NHS for this reason?
I met a consultant many times just after diagnosis and he confirmed it.
I also had appointments 3 times a year and did a Spirometry test every time I went and still was told I had COPD.

I Have mild Asthma and have been on medication for years (When I mean mild I mean very mild).
I also have had bronchitis a few times when I was younger.
I take a Seretide 250 (its a round purple inhaler)
And I take Piriton allergy tablets
I have never had the MMR and have always been told that it has a chance to cause autism
Now its my choice as I am now 16.
Do you think I should get the MMR? Are can it cause autism?

Helllo,
Until recently I was a healthy seventeen year old girl. I have had mild asthma since I was a wee baby However last year I was admitted to hospital three times following asthma attacks and had lots and lots of Doctor appointment's being perscribed steroids and antibotics. It all cleared up just taking my normal inhalers and tablets ( Ventolin, Seretide and Montelukast)
However over the last couple months I have been suffering from a build up of thick sticky phlegm in my throat meaning I have to force myself to clear my airway. I sometimes wheeze but it is not every breath and it is very small, only when I start breathe out. It gets worse after I run in the cold, but I have always had a wheeze after running in the cold as do most people haha.
I have had the occasional pain behind my boobs (if that makes sense haha) , large pitty tonsils but they are not at all painful and the occasional joint pains in my shoulder joint, knee joint and ankle, mostly on my left side, bit random

Hey theree
I am seventeen years old and my whole life I have had asthma but it never bothered me until last year when I was admitted to hospital after a serve attack. I had attack after attack but then it just seemed to go way. Recently I have had lots of phlegm in my throat which means unless I cough to clear it l cant get full breathes out as well as sounding gross when I breathe out there is a tiny high whistle sound which get worst after I have ran. My peak flows are good, in fact I think they are above average, apart after I ru in the cold then they go little low. As I singer I have noticed a difference in my voice as well. My best friend smokes but it has never affected me could this be it?
I don't know whether to go to the doctor as I don't know if it is normal for asthmaic? also I had been going a lot lately because I have been suffering tension headaches so I don't want to seem a pain?
I take Ventolin, Seretide and Motelukast But I really am worried as I don't want a repea

I've asthma, I also have GERD. Take Nexium for GERD, take Singulair, Ventolin and Seretide for asthma. Oddly, or maybe not, but I notice that if my breathing is a little problematic and if I get sick, I breathe much easier? Could it be psychosomatic or is there some real reason why this would be the case? Thanks.

Does anyone know if there is something stronger than ventolin that provides immediate relief from asthma symptoms? I'm already taking seretide as a preventer but I currently have a chest cold and it's making breathing very difficult and I'm not getting any relief from ventolin. Also dpi you need a script or can you just buy over the counter? I'm in Australia. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I had to go to the GP yesterday as I was short of breath and coughing terribly.
When I was there he placed me on a nebulizer, after that he prescribed me antibiotics and steroids for a chest infection.
I took the steroids and antibiotics yesterday and was also using my asthma inhalers quite often because of struggling to breathe.
I use Salamol CFC-Free inhaler and also Seretide 250 evohaler.
As I said I was using the quite often yesterday and last night.
Then my heart started racing, I have a BP monitor at home and my pulse was 133bpm.
I could feel my heart pounding, and I could even hear the beat of my heart in my ears.
I kept monitoring it and it was varying from 131bpm-135bpm.
(Note: I was laying in bed resting when it was like this)
I finally fell asleep but kept waking up from the beating in my chest, but I was too tired to check my pulse anymore and kept drifting in and out of sleep.
This morning I checked and my pulse was 138bpm, I stopped using my inhalers last n

When would my doctor prescribe me with a brown inhaler again?

Will applying Symbicort, Seretide (they are preventatives) and using Ventalin several times a day consistently keep asthma from becoming out of control?
I'm a little worried because my asthma can be triggered by coldness and I don't want to fall behind in performance and enjoyment. If I keep warm by wearing many layers will I be fine to go?
Hopefully it remains under control..
Does anyone have first-hand experience with asthma at the snow?

10 years ago i was diagnosed with adult onset asthma, the doctor who diagnosed me at the time just got me to blow into a peak flow meter as far as I recall and I was told I had asthma. That was the only "test" which was ever carried out.
Since then been on ventolin, then ventolin and symbicort, then ventolin, symbicort and singulair and now ventolin, seretide and singulair. I'm often wheezy and sort of breath especially when I wake up, often have blocked nostrils throughout the day, lots of phelgm and despite using prescription nasal sprays, first flixonase and now nasofan, it doesn't help much. Anyway, how do you tell the difference between asthma and COPD? Thanks.

I have an excessive prudction of Phlegm, what could this be from?
I get it:
-When I wake up (naps included)
-After/during excersise (Whenever I stop excercising it's because breathing becomes difficult, my chest feels like it's on fire and my mouth is mucousy)
-THE WORST PART! During mainly the whole winter season, I get these crazy coughing fits that don't stop. Phlegm comes out and stuff, but the cough comes like 7 times a day for the whole season, and I keep coughing (unconrollably) until everything comes out. I've had this type of cough for as long as I could remember (like maybe the age of 4?).
My doctor gave me a purple puffer when the cough starts (that I take twice daily) with corticosteroids and brocha-- uhm brocha something. But anyways, it basically stops lung inflammation and reduces mucus. It's become tedious to do this, and I feel like all my symptomes are related, am I right?
Thank you so much!

I have had asthma since I was 13 years old and about once, sometimes twice a year I get a tight uncomfortable chest that is only relieved momentarily by my blue inhaler but there is little to no wheezing, it usually then develops into a chest infection after about a week.
However about four weeks ago I started feeling the same symptoms but this time there has been no change, no chest infection just this constant tight chest I have been to the doctors three times now and they have just said that it should go away, obviously this is no help to me, on my last visits they have taken my peak flow and they have been extremely good but I say to them that it is not breathing out that is the problem but breathing in and I get the same response "it will go" so I don't know what to do really I am medicating regularly for my asthma anyway I take a purple Seretide disk inhaler as well as my blue one as and when but as I said I have had no joy.

I take stuff called Ventolin, Seretide, Singulair, Nasofan and Nexium. Here it would cost $250 a month but a pharmacist in the States told me it would cost about $550 a month for the very same medications! That is a hell of a price jump. It's really odd because almost everything in the US is cheaper than in Ireland (Ireland is one of the most expensive countries in the world to live in) So I don't understand why and how prices for meds are so much higher in the US than here in Ireland? And the prices I've given for both countries are full, unsubsidised prices. Thanks.
The State and Federal government along with the regulators there in the US need to give the pharmaceutical industry a swift kick in the backside.
Most countries outside the US use herbal medicine? What d'you mean? Here in Ireland and every other European country ;we use exactly the same medicines that are used in the US, just re-read my question.
Patents? You think it's because of patents that drugs from the SAME manufa

Also take Nexium http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexium for something called GERD and that costs $60 a month. I'm in Ireland and as I'm an adult student I luckily have what's called a "Medical Card" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_card so only pay 65c per item. But if I was paying this would be what it'd cost! How does that compare to prices for those meds in your country? Changed prices from € to $ just to make it easier. Thanks.
Is it true that Flixonase/Flovent is no longer being manufactured? Here in Ireland that is what all pharmacists are telling me, although seems doctors don't know as they keep prescribing it. Given something called Nasofan as a substitute product - think it's exactly the same only a different manufacturer?
AJ: The prices I've given are the full cost prices for those meds if you were to pay for them yourself.

I've had asthma for 11 years now, adult onset asthma. Had been on Symbicort but moved onto Seretide, works a bit better but still often find myself having to take upto 5 puffs of ventolin before bed? Take 2 puffs of seretide (advair) twice a day and one singulair pill before bed. I'll also take several puffs of ventolin throughout the day. I've a peak flow thingie and when I wake up and blow in it it's usually always at red, sometimes yellow if I'm lucky but almost never at green and that's after following my asthma regime as prescribed. Thanks.
Peak flow does go to green as the day wears on. But in the mornings, almost never. Sometimes/often find it hard to breathe in the mornings.
I didn't realise taking upto 5 puffs was dangerous? I did hear something before about ventolin interacting with your heart or something but when I said it to the doc I was told no, it doesn't?

This has kept me awake every single night. I spend the first 2 - 3 hours coughing and being sick before i could get to sleep. When coughing it felt as though i could not cough out and my airways had been cut off which scared me. Coughing all day, every day. My preventive (Seretide) has a counter on it, but Ventolin and Asmol don't. I used to just throw them out when I couldn't taste the medicine any more. This week I had a cold and really needed it and did something stupid. I put the new one next to the old one and then I couldn't tell which was which. I'm sure the old one's empty but my throat is so gone I don't think I'd know if I'm tasting the medicine or not. I just googled this question and just found something telling me I should be counting how often I use it. Seems pretty ridiculous. Any other ideas? What is the float test?

I need to take the highest dose of Seretide, 4 times a day. I was put on it after so many chest's infections that I had a MASSIVE asthma attack 4 years ago. I found however, that the medical professionals were not, ironically, that professional. A trainee doc put me on the inhaler as an emergancy reponse.
It makes me very shakey, gives me palipitations and after using it I started getting panic attacks for which I did not get help for until I took a break down and got give Lexapro. When I asked for my asthma to be looked at the practice nurse simply put me on a lower dose, but a few days later I started to feel really choked up and struggling to breathe without my emergancy inhaler.
I was put again onn the highest dose and when i told my GP that I had a racing heart, jumpyness and lethargy he told me I had to expect that being asthmatic and that this was the only way to basically keep me alive.
Asking about the link to anxiety , he dismissed that entirely and insisted i try exerc
