(Sun, 06 Sep 2009 09:45:00 GMT)
Hi, I am 19 years old and am so confused about how to help my mom. She is 54 years old and was diagnosed with stage 4 colo-rectal cancer about 9 months ago. She underwent chemotherapy with xeloda and had radiation on the spot where the tumor is, she didn't get very sick or tired while taking the chemo medicine, so the doctor thinks that she wasn't responding to it very well.. After that we were advised that surgery was the best option.. The tumor was about 9 cm above her rectum and they remov

My mum has stage IV metastatic breast cancer. She was told today that as of tomorrow morning she will be starting a new intravenous cancer regime because the oral chemotherapy xeloda hasn't worked. She will be having carboplatin and another one too but I don't know the name. It's somethingSTATIN or STATINsomething. I know carboplatin is usually used for ovarian cancer but Mum's doc said it is very effective for breast cancer also and that he has a patient who has been on it for 7 years. I take

Resolved Question: Is 8mm small or large for a cancerous tumour?
(Fri, 20 Feb 2009 07:07:15 GMT)
I am pretty sure 8mm is small as tumours are usually measured in cm's but I just wanted to check. Also, if the tumour has grown from 5mm to 8mm in about 5 months is that fast or slow growing? My mum is on xeloda while this has happened. It also appears the cancer she had in her spine has spread from 3 tumours to 10. We can't understand the results properly (doctor terminology) so we aren't sure about the spine but that's what we think it says. Will the doctors give her radiation to her spine i

Resolved Question: Does chemo 'catch up?' And what about xeloda?
(Sat, 31 Jan 2009 07:11:56 GMT)
My mum had chemo last year due to metastatic breast cancer. It worked really well and got rid of three of the four tumours on her lung. The remaining one had shrunk from 7mm to 5mm. The tumour in her spine had spread to three vertebrae instead of just the one. The doctors said that chemo takes longer to get to the bones and that it would get there and work on the cancer and that it should also keep working on the remaining tumour on her lung. From people's experiences is this true? Also, she i

Resolved Question: Chemo side effect?
(Thu, 10 Jul 2008 22:32:30 GMT)
I'm a 21 yr old female and was on Xeloda and oxaliplatin for colon cancer for 6 months until a couple of weeks ago. The skin on my hands and feet went really dark and dry and cracked. The skin on my hands is now peeling off, showing lighter coloured skin underneath. Is that just dry skin peeling off that shouldn't happen, or is it the horrible dark skin coming off and it going back to normal? It's not very sore, just when I bend my fingers, etc. Thanks

(Thu, 21 Feb 2008 20:23:53 GMT)

Has anyone else experienced this and if so what chemo did they go on afterwards? Obviously I discussed this with my oncologist. I was 2 weeks on, one week off for 3 sessions, thus 6 weeks of taking it with a break in between. I see my Dr. next week and we will decide on what the next step is. All I wanted to know was
