Resolved Question: Severe Chronic Asthma, Any Help?
(Sun, 28 Sep 2008 17:29:26 GMT)
I have had severe chronic asthma for as long as I can remember. I use about 5 different inhalers daily, am taking 2 preventative oral pills, and am having to take breathing machine/nebulizer treatments up to 8 times a day at home. I used to be hospitalized so often that the doctor recommended I just buy my own nebulizer...this has prevented hundreds of hospitializations. I cannot sleep more than 2 hours at a time without waking up coughing, struggling to breathe, and/or sinus congestion. This

Resolved Question: My Doctor Says I Need Xolair for Asthma and Allergies?
(Wed, 17 Sep 2008 13:10:21 GMT)
I have chronic severe asthma and allergies. Nothing helps to resolve my suffering...it bothers me constantly. I have tried almost every medication possible, including allergy shots for almost 20 yrs. My doctor thinks that the only medication left to try is the Xolair shot. Well, it is not covered by my insurance and I would need 2 shots per month. It costs around $2000 out of pocket!!! There is no way I can afford that (can anyone???)! I wanted to know if anyone has tried this medication...ho

Resolved Question: First Xolair injection - what to expect?
(Thu, 15 May 2008 14:23:31 GMT)
Hi, I have my first xolair injection on 29th May. Has anyone else had one and knows what to expect - I will be discussing with my Consultant but it has taken so long to get a decision on whether to get it that we focussed on actually getting it funded rather than what to expect. My asthma has been bad since last October and I've been on steroid tablets ever since which I'm keen to get off the steroids and back to uni.

Resolved Question: Anyone else with wierd lung issues?
(Sat, 11 Aug 2007 03:23:21 GMT)
I'm a teenage female. Had bacterial pnemonia when I was 2 (intubated and everything), but that resolved. I was diagnosed with asthma as a result, and had no problems right up until high school. I would do my inhaler maybe ONCE every 6 months and didn't do a nebulizer for years at a time. When I was 14, I developed pnemonia again, and my lungs have been shot ever since. I'm on Q4 nebulizers, 120mg pred/day, singulair, zyrtec, protonix (acid reflux), nasonex, duoneb, chromylin, and going to star

(Tue, 27 Mar 2007 20:28:44 GMT)
Has anyone here used it? If so, what have your experiences been? My docs put me on it (225 mg / 2 weeks), and I can only say it's been a godsend for me due to the fact that my asthma is allergic. Thoughts? My own personal experience? Well, I've been on it since September '05...at the time, I was on Singulair, Albuterol (MDI and nebs), Advair 500/50, course after course after course of prednisone and antibiotics, various allergy meds, and the list goes on and on.... Hospitalization after h

Resolved Question: Xolair: Anybody out there with Immunology/Allergy/Medical background???
(Mon, 05 Feb 2007 17:18:22 GMT)
I was just reading the following on xolair.com: "...XOLAIR is a different type of medication, the first to treat the attacks and symptoms of allergic asthma by blocking immunoglobulin E (IgE), an underlying cause of allergic asthma. IgE is a substance that naturally occurs in your body in small amounts. When a person who has allergic asthma is exposed to an allergen, his or her body produces too much IgE. When these IgE antibodies combine with allergens, chemicals called mediators are relea
