Open Question: I am coughing and having trouble breathing and nothing is helping!?
(Sat, 21 Nov 2009 19:37:42 GMT)
I developed what seemed like a head cold LAST friday (not yesterday). I was sick all day on Saturday and then felt better on Sunday. But then by Monday I felt like crap again. NO fever, just severe nasal congestion, headache, tired, and backache. Then halfway through the week it turned into sneezing and less head congestion. A couple days ago it went to my chest. I used to have asthma and whenever I get a cold it flares up. BUT this time my xopenex is not working. I am coughing and my breathin

Voting Question: Pneumonia with normal breath sounds?
(Mon, 05 Oct 2009 05:11:27 GMT)
I woke up with a horrible cough and chest pain over two and half weeks ago. I went to the doctor four days later and was put on a 5-day burst of prednisone for what the doctor diagnosed as bronchitis. The cough only worsened and includes periods of trouble breathing and continued chest pain (and this is all with the prednisone along with taking my Xopenex inhaler every four hours, my Advair 250/50 inhaled steroids every 12 hours, a Mucinex-DM Maximum Strength twice a day, a cough syrup every

Resolved Question: Questions. I'm sick and could use some help?
(Wed, 16 Sep 2009 21:00:00 GMT)
i've currently been sick with a cold and sore throat. Since I'm an asthmatic my cold quickly turned into a cough. I have a wet cough and I'm all stuffy. I'm taking an antibiotic (amoxicillin) but I'm still really congested and can barely hear a thing. I've been sick since Monday. I'm feeling better and my nose stopped running but is there anyway to help my cough and congestion? The cough is killing my lungs. It hurts when I cough hard. I don't have a fever, but I took some of my asthma medic

Resolved Question: What is wrong with him? Post-pneumonia.?
(Mon, 07 Sep 2009 00:44:52 GMT)
My dad spent one month in the hospital with h1n1/viral pneumonia. He originally went there for what his doctor told him was pleurisy. After four days right before discharge he went into some sort of relapse and they found he had viral pneumonia and tests later found he had H1N1. Now he is at home and he is having some complications. 1. He has a high heart rate. His heart rate at rest is anywhere from 98-105. When he was on oral prednesone his heart rate at rest would stay anywhere from 105-12

Resolved Question: what do you do if heart rate increases after taking xopenex?
(Mon, 17 Aug 2009 05:46:01 GMT)
I took some xopenex earlier because breathing was becoming a bit labored and took about 6 puffs. And then about 5 mins later and 30 mins since then my heart rate has increased. I saw on the site it was temporary but how long is temporary? Is this normal? Btw I am 16 year. Old, I used to have asthma, but most of it is gone. I'd really appreciate and answer because this seems serious.

Voting Question: Has your toddler ever taken Xopenex?
(Sun, 02 Aug 2009 02:33:04 GMT)
My son has been prescribed Xopenex off and on for several months. I have noticed that when he takes it he becomes a terror to say the least. He is easily frustrated, tears the house apart, and is physically aggressive at both home and daycare. I can see that it makes him high strung, but this is beyond that. He sweats profusely, angers easily, bangs his head or bites himself at times, and is very emotional. I know he needs the medication and the Dr said that Albuterol is even worse, but I h

Resolved Question: Asthma questions, wheezing, chest tightness, and the hospital?
(Thu, 23 Jul 2009 06:46:29 GMT)
I have wheezing and coughing but very little pain. I do feel like there is chest tightness that is limiting my breathing. I am not sure if I should go to the hospital or not. I've have breathing treatments using a nebulizer at the doctor two days in a row now and I got a solu-medrol shot today. The breathing treatment worked for a little while and I did follow up using my xopenex inhaler as directed by my doctor. I am not actually sure that the solu-medrol did anything at all because even for

Resolved Question: I use my xopenex inhaler a lot?
(Tue, 21 Jul 2009 16:30:51 GMT)
I'll usually take it 3 times a day and sometimes more if the weather is humid. I would go to the doctor, but we lost our health insurance. I used advair for a little while, but it only made me feel worse after I had to stop using it because of the lose of our insurance. I'm not sure what to do...?! Does anyone know what I should do..?!

Resolved Question: Asthma Attack? Or something else?

When i was born i was diagnosed with asthma. But i haven't had a bad attack in almost 4 years and because of that my Xopenex and Advair was tossed due to expiration. Now i have received an unknown problem i think is Asthma. The Feeling of pressure comes up in the chest every few seconds to an hour. And it relieves when i take a deep breath. It makes it worse when i lay down. It can't be weight. I lost 20 pounds. It isn't an allergic reaction. My diet hasn't changed with the exception that i

Resolved Question: If you have asthma, do you have to "feel" it all the time, or can you have times when you feel totally fine?
(Mon, 06 Jul 2009 04:29:58 GMT)
I'm asking because I know of alot of people that have asthma, and are able to play sports and lead a normal life. However in my case, my underlying inflammation/chestpressure/heaviness never has gone away in the last half of a year, and I've used EVERYTHING under the sun, prednisone, xopenex, symbicort, pulmicort, nasal sprays, singulair, allergy stuff... it's like I CAN breathe, and the bronchospasm part of it goes away,..but the underlying heaviness/weighing down of the chest is chronically

I have COPD, with emphysema, chronic bronchitis and frequents asthma attacks. I am highly allergic to sulfa. I am somewhat confused by the medications I have been prescribed in the past to put in my nebulizer . I know when I was hospitalized in March with a bad reaction to Bactrim the M.D. would only let me have Xopenex via neb...even though my pulmo had me on Brovana, albuterol and atrovent (mixed together) 2 times a day. And atrovent and albuterol (mixed together )two times a day. The pulm

(Sat, 20 Jun 2009 09:54:36 GMT)
My asthma was always worst at night (by the way, I'm 13) but when I told my doctor that I always took my inhaler at night, he told me that I should try to stop using my inhaler (Xopenex HFA) but it's very difficult to sleep with my asthma at night and after a while, I start to become a littly dizzy and then use my inhaler. I used to have positional vertigo, the Dr helped me get over it. But for the past 3 years I been dizzy again. But over the last month and a half it's gotten worse. I can't lay down, stand up, walk around and I have bad pains in my lower back, like mostly in my lower spine. I went to 4 different Drs and they don't seem to be helpful. Resolved Question: How can I get any relief from my respiratory problems?
(Sun, 03 May 2009 00:57:57 GMT)
my allergies/asthma have been off the hook in the last few years, and I even find that my allergy meds stop working every so often, and I find myself having to rotate them around, and then the new ones start working again. Then the steroid drugs for the asthma, mostly the prednisone, but also a bit with the inhaled steroids, speed me up and give me unbearable side effects, and lower my immune system, where I've even developed oral thrush! My immune system was so low that I kept getting sick al

I am 28 weeks today. For the past two weeks, I have been recovering from a horrible flu. I had temps up to 103. I was in the hospital for a while, and my asthma kicked in over drive for a bit. The doctors at the hospital had me on xopenex nebulizer for my asthma ( I might be spelling wrong) and Tylenol for the fever. I only had to take the breathe treatments for two weeks. I'm off them now and doing a lot better. But, when I got home from the hospital and was reading my prescription warnings i

Resolved Question: Sick 2 year old, what is this?
(Tue, 17 Feb 2009 04:33:23 GMT)
recently my 2 year old was diagnosed with environmental allergies. He used Pulmicort with the nebulizer 2x a day and he used Xopenex the first few days until he could breathe better. He was doing great. The day he went in for his follow up he started to run a slight temp. That night he spiked at 102. The next day I took him to his pediatrician who said he had a raging ear infection. He gave us antibiotics for five days. He has been taking it for four days but started a terrible cough.

Resolved Question: Trouble breathing, maybe allergies? Not asthma, or anxiety! Please help!?
(Sat, 07 Feb 2009 04:59:24 GMT)
I'm a little discouraged right now since my ENT doctor admitted that he was completely confused about this, and didn't have a clue about what it is. This started around Dec. 27th 2008. I woke up one morning to find my face swollen, my eyes huge, gums in my mouth swollen, and a very hard time breathing. The next day it was the same thing. For a few weeks after that it was just puffy eyes and trouble breathing. Now it's constant trouble breathing that seems to get worse and better throughou

Resolved Question: Is Xopenex [levosalbutamol] available in Canada?

I have mild persistent asthma and take FloVent as well as Salbutamol [Ventolin] as needed. I've read about Xopenex online and that it may have fewer side effects [I usually get shakiness and heat palpitations from the Salbutamol]. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday, and may ask about it, but first I'd like to know if Xopenex is available in Canada? Wingnut- I take the same Salbutamol inhaler as you do. Resolved Question: How long does it take to get over walking pneumonia?
(Mon, 19 Jan 2009 18:40:02 GMT)
I got a cold about 8 weeks ago and was then hearing a rattling sound in my chest so the dr said I had bronchitis. Turns out after many weeks of still being sick I actually have walking pneumonia. Does anyone know how long it takes for that tight chest feeling to go away and how long will it take for the congestion in my chest to get ouf of there. The Dr gave me an inhaler (Xopenex) to use for when my chest does get tight but I haven't used it much because I am afraid I'll end up with asthma. D

Resolved Question: My 3 year old son's xopenex has expired (about a year ago) but he really needs it right now...?
(Sun, 11 Jan 2009 03:07:59 GMT)
I am not going to give him the Xopenex, obviously, but is there a home solution that might get him through the night? I can't believe I didn't catch that it was expired earlier, but he hasn't been using it often - which is a good thing - and I just figured we refilled it later than that. Right now, every time he lays down he's coughing so badly that it makes him throw up. It seems like it's all upper airway and not in his lungs, so no concerns about that for the moment. I did give him pulmic

My 7 year son has had a pretty bad cough for a little over a week now. We are going to the doctor this afternoon but I wanted to get some insight before we go. He has been taking nebulizer treatments with Xopenex since the cough started but he just cannot seem to get rid of it.
