Resolved Question: Does anyone know why Colpermin is not available in the US but it is available in the UK?
(Wed, 11 Nov 2009 10:25:21 GMT)
As an IBS sufferer I read on a couple of websites about this great new product called Colpermin, made w/peppermint oil. They said it was OTC but you would probably have to ask your pharmacist for it. When my husband went to pick up my Rx's for me he asked for it and they never heard of it. They looked it up in their computer: nothing. So I came back to mine to do a little more research and realized that the IBS help site I was on was in the UK, which doesn't surprise me. Their health care may

Resolved Question: Why was the drug, zelnorm discontinued in US?
(Fri, 28 Aug 2009 01:19:45 GMT)
Zelnorm was the best drug for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It used to provide me tremendous relief. But then it suddenly got banned in US without any specific reason. Now i don't get relief from IBS using bentyl and antidepressants. Thats crazy to ban an effective medication, which helps control symptoms.

Resolved Question: What does your IBS feel like?
(Mon, 25 May 2009 02:09:46 GMT)
I could be walking, sitting or just standing when I feel light stomach spasms..then get come stronger, and stronger and stronger to I'm bent over in pain. My heart rate increases, and I break out into a cold sweat. I never had diarrhea or constipation. The spasm are painful and unbearable. Normally after 1 to 4 minutes later the pain subsides and I feel acid reflex coming up through my throat. Sometimes I have a huge bm after wards and wears me out for the rest of the day. Then I get a blood

Resolved Question: I have kind of a nasty question but....?
(Sat, 18 Oct 2008 03:26:18 GMT)
Could my not having regular bowel movements be the cause of my extreme nausea? I only go every 5 to 6 days and usually by the third day I start to get really sick to my stomach. The feeling passes after I go to the bathroom but comes back after a few days. I do have IBS and I am currently taking Zelnorm.

(Fri, 04 Jul 2008 03:36:01 GMT)
I am 26 weeks pregnant and suffering with terrible IBS. I had it even before I was pregnant and now it has intensified. I was on Zelnorm and it worked great but it is not safe for pregnant women so I cant take it any longer. I average about 6 - 7 days between bathroom visits and that is hard for anyone, especially a pregnant woman. Resolved Question: IBS & Weight Gain?
(Sun, 06 Apr 2008 01:30:53 GMT)
2 years ago, I was diagnosed with IBS. Earlier that year, I lost 30 pounds on Weight Watchers. I got thin, then the IBS hit. I couldn't eat the high fiber diet Weight Watchers requires because of flare ups, but I still kept active. I'm not a junk food eater. And even though it's painful to eat veggies, I did. I joined the gym, then I gained over 20 pounds. I still goto the gym several times a week, watch what I eat and 2 years later...no weight loss. I tried a year ago to go back on Weight Wat

Resolved Question: Zelnorm withdrawal. Other suggestions?
(Sun, 02 Mar 2008 16:20:34 GMT)
I have IBS-C (that's IBS with constipation). Zelnorm was like a miracle drug that dropped out of the sky, after 23 years of suffering. Because of Zelnorm, I could drink soda, taste cheese, not worry about eating too late, and not get horrible pain and gas and cramping. Then, they took it off the market. It was like my own personal Great Depression. Going off Zelnorm, well, sucked. Now, all I have is Miralax, and a bag full of tricks (dried apricots, hot tea first thing in the morning, exerci

Resolved Question: Is Irritabel Bowel Syndrome at all?
(Fri, 25 Jan 2008 22:49:35 GMT)
Hello everybody, I am almost torn apart by what has been bothering me for almost 10 years. I'm 30, and although I was diagnosed with Irritabel Bowel Disease, it seems this disease rules everything I do during the day since I feel bloated, tired, I have frequent bowel movements everytime I eat or even if I don't, I also have headaches. I have tried different diets, medicines such as zelnorm and dicetel, metamucil, stopped coke, etc, etc, etc but none of these has worked. I feel very depressed

Resolved Question: Is there a generic medicine similar to Lexapro?
(Thu, 29 Nov 2007 16:06:41 GMT)
Zelnorm worked very well for me and I am almost out. My doc tried Miralax and it doesn't work right with me. He says because Zelnorm is off the market we will try some others seratonin blockers. Between Oct 06-May 07 I was on Lexapro and I didn't need to take the zelnorm at that time. I know that lexapro is brand name and want to know if there is a similar medicine that is a generic? I was always very hesitant about taking these types of medicines because several years ago a physician of

Resolved Question: Is Goldenseal Herb an effective remedy for chronic constipation?
(Thu, 25 Oct 2007 16:23:34 GMT)
I've tried conventional medicine (Zelnorm, which is now off the market), I've also changed my diet to be 90% vegetarian, drink tons of water, exercise 4-5 times a week either treadmill walking or turbo jam, but none of this has helped. I just don't know what else to do to get rid of this problem. I'm not overweight. I feel terrible most days, bad headaches, the kind where your head hurts when you move your head side to side so you just wanna be laying in bed all day and I also feel really tir

Resolved Question: Has anyone ever tried a colon cleanse?
(Tue, 16 Oct 2007 13:38:47 GMT)
I've been suffering from constipation for years, I've tried every fiber supplement on the market and even several prescription ones and nothing seems to work for me. I was on Zelnorm and it seemed to work ok but it was recalled. Now I am on Miralax twice a day and it works a little but I'm usually always miserable with cramping, bloating and gas. Not long after I eat I'm not feeling well. I was doing some research on line about the colon cleanse but I wanted some advice from someone who has ac

Resolved Question: STOMACH pAIN...IBS?
(Sat, 13 Oct 2007 17:25:03 GMT)
I have been told by the doc I have IBS, Took Zelnorm then it was recalled, so since then I just deal with the cramps, but after bowel movements I'm okay. But the last few days, my stomach has been screwed up. I had diahrea once yesterday, but it was bad. Today I have had two loose bowel movements, which is strange because usually I have one bowel movement a week, maybe 2. And this time the cramping feeling doesn't go away. The pain is between my belly button and sternum. It hurts on a sc

Resolved Question: What do other IBS sufferers use as treatment?
(Sun, 23 Sep 2007 16:48:49 GMT)
I've had IBS for 4 years and have been on Zelnorm previously. I'm at point again where I can begin a new treatment and I'm looking to hear from other IBS patients on what they use or do. I've read a lot about using certain homeopathic treatments (such as herbs, psychiatrists and chiropracters). Basically I want to hear what everyone else uses and how well it works for them personally. I have IBS with severe bloating, pressure pain, constapation and diarrea all complicated by menstrual cycl

Resolved Question: Does anyone else had IBS this bad??
(Wed, 08 Aug 2007 00:47:54 GMT)
I have IBS with primary constipation. I know this sounds gross, but nothing seems to help me. Zelnorm worked for a while but they have since pulled it due to it causing strokes. I have tried several things from Miralax, and Lactalose. These seem to only have relief for two weeks and then I start having trouble again.Does anyone know of something else to try??

Resolved Question: Can takubg Miralax or Glycolax help with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)?
(Thu, 12 Jul 2007 14:07:13 GMT)
Previously, my doctor prescribed Zelnorm to treat my IBS. It worked OKAY; It DID help. Since the FDA pulled Zelnorm off the market due to some side-effects (heart problems), there is nothing available to treat IBS. I have lower abdominal pain ALL the time. Imagine that someone has put a long balloon in your lower intestine and blew it up. None of my clothes fit me, and I have to buy pants in a size larger than I actually am in case I have an "episode" of increased pressure (it comes and g

Resolved Question: Prune juice is the only thing that'll work for me for constipation, but it's NASTY,. What will make it better?
(Mon, 25 Jun 2007 15:10:58 GMT)
Is there anything I can mix with it to make it taste a little bit better, or will mixing something with it make it less effective in relieving the constipation? I've tried just about everything I know that's out there for constipation. I've tried: Benefiber - loved this stuff becuz it worked even better than the prune juice at 1st, but after a few days, it suddenly stopped working for me Metamucil and Citrucel - didn't work at all for me laxatives - these work sometimes and sometimes they do

Since I was a child I've had issues with constant constipation. I saw a commercial about IBS. Do I have it? I always have pain, bloating, and constipation. Does anybody here have it and is willing to post about their experiences? How do I get diagnosed so I can be put on a medication such as Zelnorm? Thanks everyone. The problem has seemed worse since I'm breastfeeding. I drink tons of water, but it seems to all go to my daughter. I'm thin, not overweight. I could use a little more exercise an

Resolved Question: Is there a correlation between wearing pantyhose and lower abdominal pain?
(Wed, 13 Jun 2007 17:51:22 GMT)
I was diagnosed with IBS a few years back and was taking Zelnorm. To be honest, Zelnorm didn't do much for me. I still had constipation and bloating (I am in constant pain and the doctors say nothing, I just came to the realization that I will have to live with the pain the rest of my life). I was told that wearing panty hose helps with some abdominal pain and pressure. I have been trying it on and off for the past few months and it makes all my symptoms WORSE. Everytime I wear anything t

Resolved Question: Ladies: What have you tried? Help!?
(Wed, 13 Jun 2007 16:39:49 GMT)
I hate to be so personal but I have a constipation problem. I drink plenty of water, I take fiber pills. I was even on Zelnorm for a while and nothing seems to help. I recently took an herbal laxative tea which didn’t work and I woke up in the middle of the night vomiting. Now, I have just resolved to drinking Magnesium Citrate which is gentle on my stomach but I can’t take it for longer than a few days and it tastes horrible. Any alternative suggestions? Resolved Question: Canada, Mexico or France Pharmacy?
(Fri, 18 May 2007 10:57:25 GMT)
Does anyone know how to find a legitimate pharmacy in another country besides the U.S. I am trying to order Zelnorm which the FDA took off the market a few months ago. My doctor said it was because Zelnorm led to an "increased risk" of heart problems with patients WHO ALREADY HAVE heart disease, which I don't. I really need to find Zelnorm because I am really sick and in pain without it so my doctor suggested I try to get it from another country. Help!

I recently made the reluctant but inevitable switch from Zelnorm to Amitiza and feel as though I am experiencing a negative side effect: unwanted weight gain with no change in my caloric intake. I just recently found out about the recall, a little late since no one decided to call and tell me about it, but I've been having the symptoms of a heart attack and one time it got really bad but passed off. Resolved Question: Has anyone had angina as a side-effect of Zelnorm?
(Tue, 10 Apr 2007 21:22:01 GMT)
I have been taking Zelnorm for about a year and a half. At one point I went to the Dr. complaining about chest pain. They said (because of my age, I was 28 then) that I had inflammed cartlidge in my chest and prescribed me Celebrex (which did nothing). I tried to get my Zelnorm refilled today and I was told it was pulled off the US market due to Heart Attack, Stroke, and Angina risks. I am not sure what to do. I called my doctors and none of them are taking it seriously due to my age. An
