Open Question: high cholestorol during pregnancy...anyone?
(Fri, 20 Nov 2009 01:24:59 GMT)
I'm very worried and stressed out about my cholestorol. I'm 24, 3 months pregnant, and I have always had high cholestorol since a teenager. I've been taking 40 mg of crestor and 10 mg of zetia. Now that I'm pregnant im off my medicine and im so worried that it is going to go out the roof again and i might have a heart attack or stroke. I just had a visit to the cleveland clinic in september and they did a heart cath, and I do already have 40% blockage in one of my arteries. I'm such a mess i k

Resolved Question: What is the best alternative medicine cholesterol lowering supplement, other than Red Yeast Rice?
(Mon, 16 Nov 2009 10:45:08 GMT)
My Kidney Doctor has just now taken me off Red Yeast Rice and the New England Journal of Medicine has blasted Zetia for causing Heart Attacks. Statin Drugs are also a No No. I have been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease and the renal dietician - she told the Kidney Doctor that Red Yeast Rice might be damaging my kidneys. My GP is surprised!!

Resolved Question: Do you think it's true that Zetia doesn't work?
(Sun, 08 Nov 2009 19:47:40 GMT)
I see there's a class action suit against it saying it doesn't work. I take it and Pravastatin and together they seem to work and with no side effects that I notice. Just wondering if it's only the Pravastatin that is working. Do you take Zetia? Please let me know if it's working for you...with nothing extra. E ma..Thanks sooo much for that link. WOW.. I think I better start paying attention to my symptoms. Maybe I should stop using Zetia..and just take pravastatin. I'll ask a question abo

Resolved Question: Why doesn't Zetia come in dosages greater than 10mg?
(Thu, 20 Aug 2009 13:25:29 GMT)
Zetia, since it metabolizes in the digestive track and not the liver, is my best bet in lowering cholesterol, but my latest test show the cholesterol level is still high. I understand Zetia only comes in 10mg dosages. Why is that? Wouldn't a higher dosage be preferable for someone like me who has side effects from statins contained in other cholesterol drugs. Please help! Thanks

Resolved Question: Anyone ever had any bad side effects taking statins?
(Sun, 12 Jul 2009 08:43:44 GMT)
I had an experience taking lovastatin where I got "lost" in my own neighborhood....for a few minutes. Scared me. I changed to a non statin one... zetia . I take pravastatin at night but no side effects. My son has to start taking them. Just want to know what to look for. I googled it but would like to hear some personal experiences. Cricket... I take half a trasadone to sleep. It works good....but a whole one...which the dr. prescribed...made me sleep all day. Felt like I had a hangover. Like

Voting Question: Cholesterol lowering medication, which one is best?
(Thu, 02 Apr 2009 14:28:35 GMT)
What is the best cholesterol lowering medicine? I had a heart attack two years ago with triple bypass surgery at University of Virginia Hospital. I prescribed Vytorin by UVA. My total cholesterol was staying below 200. My family doctor switched me to Zocor about two months ago and my level went to 203, he then added Zetia three days ago. My brother and sister both take Lipitor (my brother had triple bypass surgery 18 mos. before I did at the same hospital, but no heart attack). My bad choleste

Resolved Question: Are you on medication? What for?
(Wed, 04 Mar 2009 03:46:00 GMT)
I'm on: Zetia - cholesterol Crestor - cholesterol Geodon - Um...i don't know why i'm on this. Depakote - seizures Metaformin - sugar Lexapro - depression (although I don't think I need to be on this. >_>) you? I'm not a strong needer of God. Yes, i have issues, cyron but I'm going through a lot of loneliness and stuff. I know it's changing the subject but I DO believe in a God, it's just not a super-strong feeling and I don't pray or anything. I'm actually Agnostic but I don't really thin

Resolved Question: Are you taking Zetia?
(Mon, 26 Jan 2009 15:18:33 GMT)
My doctor prescribed me Zetia for high TC, Tri and LDL, except HDL is normal. She said this will help treat the high numbers down. Want to know if this works for you, just the Zetia alone? I read that you can take it with other statin.

Resolved Question: Recent cardiac cath, what can I expect the next few days or weeks ?
(Fri, 16 Jan 2009 06:28:28 GMT)
I had a cath yesterday and have been started on Imdur and Zetia. I feel terrible ! Tenderness in the groin area, not bad, but I've had a non-stop headache since the procedure..... regular headache and also feels like a sinus headache. I'm VERY tired but can't seem to sleep for very long. My BP and pulse are excellent but I can feel every heart beat.... with an ocassional skipped beat. I did not have any blockages to speak of; no angioplasty, no stent. How long will I feel like this ?

Resolved Question: What drugs can be used to lower inflammation (c-reactive protein) levels besides statins?
(Thu, 18 Dec 2008 01:45:53 GMT)
My mom has elevated LDL cholesterol and c-reactive protein levels. She is unable to take statin drugs, due to the muscle damage problem. She tried niacin, and couldn't tolerate that. She is currently taking Zetia, but it seems that current research is showing that zetia will reduce cholesterol all right, but does nothing to lower heart attack risk, probably because inflammation is the main issue there. I did a little research and found out some stuff about bile acid resins and fibrates, drugs

Resolved Question: 200mg cholesterol a lethal level?
(Sun, 16 Nov 2008 05:31:21 GMT)
50% of Americans are dying of clogged arteries from cholesterol. Normal cholesterol of 75 -120mg equals NO heart attacks. Why every one should take lowering agents. Statins + Zetia. Heart attacks are dropping rapidly already because of these meds. Even in people who have already had a heart attack. All true. But low dose statins with zetia has a good record. Unfortunately, people will not or can not change their lifestyle easily. I am told that most all cardiologists are on statins. a

Well to start out im obese (BMI of 36) (I recently gained weight fast 80 lbs in a year. no thyroid problems. went from 110 to 190) and have high cholesterol. Voting Question: Should I get a Coronary Calcium Scan?
(Sat, 19 Jul 2008 13:47:49 GMT)
I am 20 years old. I have genetic hyperlipidemia (High LDL, low HDL) and a family history of heart disease. I am fit, active, and consume a very healthy diet (being a Nutrition major helps). At 5'11", I weight just slightly below 160 lbs with a BMI around 22 (normal range). I am currently taking Zetia for my cholesterol levels (I did not respond well to Statins), which has helped lower LDL levels some, but not sure if its really worth all the money. I was informed about the Coronary Cal

Resolved Question: How does ezetimibe (Zetia/Ezetrol) increase HDL-C?
(Wed, 02 Jul 2008 09:13:29 GMT)
Ezetemibe, which is a cholesterol lowering medication, and is marketed with the brand names of Zetia or Ezetrol, lowers blood cholesterol by inhibiting its intestinal absorption by acting on Niemann-Pick C1Like1 (NPC1L1) in the intestinal brush border. Ezetimibe causes a decrease in LDL-C. I want to know, that how does Ezetimibe result in an "increase" in the HDL cholesterol (HDL-C)?

Resolved Question: Christians - Explain?
(Thu, 26 Jun 2008 18:17:34 GMT)
Latest news from the American Heart Association: "The ENHANCE trial found that the ezetimibe/simvastatin (Zetia/Zocor) combination drug known as Vytorin was no more effective in reducing artery plaque build-up than simvastatin (Zocor) alone. Additional studies by the Institute of Creation Studies showed that accepting Christ into one's heart only mildly improved the artery plaque build-up situation, but greatly reduced sexual performance. " What say you?

Resolved Question: Taking only Zetia (ezetimibe) still beneficial for cholesterol?
(Sun, 30 Mar 2008 22:21:44 GMT)
I have familial high cholesterol (genetic) and have been taking zetia (ezetimibe) for over a year now. I initially tried taking a statin but my body didn't response well. I am a 20 yr old very active healthy individual - both physically and nutritionally (majoring in Nutrition). So far, my LDL has decreased slightly from taking Zetia. However, with new the study regarding the ineffective use of Zetia are my results really even that significant (especially when having to pay such high price

I have used other statin drugs Vytorin is the last one. The side effects I experienced were problems with memory, insomnia, vivid dreams, not depression but a lack of interest in life in general, did not feel like myself, hairloss. Resolved Question: Which is worse Vitorin or Zetia?
(Thu, 24 Jan 2008 12:40:38 GMT)
It seems that all the focus is on Vitorin rather than Zetia when Vitorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor when it seems that the Zocor portion of the drug is the only part of it benefitting anybody. I am currently taking Zetia and I am going for a cholesterol screening today so I just needed a few more facts before I talk to my doctor.

Resolved Question: Zetia lawsuit questions?
(Tue, 22 Jan 2008 02:15:36 GMT)
I suffered a heart attack in October 2006. My cardiac doctor put me on 80 MG Lipitor upon my release from the hospital. A few months later he also prescribed Zetia. The study on Zetia was completed in April 2006 but only released to the public in January 2008. As of right now the only thing I can actually determine is that I paid a whole lot more for Zetia than a generic that would have given me the same results. I possibly have some of the other complications derived from taking this med

Resolved Question: Anyone on the cholesterol drugs, Vytorin or Zetia?
(Wed, 16 Jan 2008 04:49:10 GMT)
Front page news today -- Study finds the cholesterol-lowering drugs do not slow plaque growth. The news came out of Washington,D.C. It states "whenever you use an ineffective treatment it means you are denying patients effective treatments". The companies are under criticism for failing to release the findings sooner. They completed the trial in April 2006 and planned to release the findings by March, 2007. (hard to believe, isn't it?) If you are on one of these drugs, are you going to
