Resolved Question: Is anyone here with early stage breast cancer taking Zometa?
(Wed, 09 Sep 2009 13:10:34 GMT)
Recent research suggests that Zometa can greatly reduce risk of recurrence for early stage breast cancer patients. If you are taking it, then what dose and how frequently? NY Times says 4mg every 6 months, but I also hear 4mg every 3 months. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/12/health/research/12bone.html?_r=2&em

Resolved Question: Anyone else on Zometa to prevent bone mets?
(Mon, 18 May 2009 12:45:31 GMT)
My oncologist has started me on infusions of Zometa. There is some evidence that is prevents bone mets in pre-menopausal women after they've had breast cancer (but don't get too excited, it's only early days). How often are other people getting their infusions? The oncologist wasn't sure if I should have it every 3, 4 or 6 months because there isn't any guidelines yet. How does it affect you? It made me feel like I had the flu for a good week. How much does it cost? I'm paying $460AU because i

Resolved Question: What kind of symptoms do people have when cancer has metastasized?
(Mon, 13 Apr 2009 00:51:53 GMT)
I'm 31 and had breast cancer last year. No lymph nodes involved. I had 4 rounds of AC but no radio as I had a mastectomy with clear margins. I've had a backache and pains that feel like period cramps since December but other than that I feel OK. I had a bone scan and pelvic ultrasound in January, they were clear. I'm on Zometa, Zoladex and Tamoxifen so I am hoping it is just a side effect. I can't keep running to the doctor every time I get an ache or pain. What kind of symptoms should I be

Resolved Question: Do SSRI antidepressants reduce the effectiveness of Tamoxifen? Is there an alternative to an SSRI?
(Sun, 14 Dec 2008 05:40:15 GMT)
I finished chemotherapy on October 28 and have started on Tamoxifen and Zoladex. I am not bothered too much by the menopausal symptoms except I am experiencing depression and anxiety. I had severe depression about 10 years ago which was effectively treated with councelling, Zoloft and Effexor. I have not taken antidepressants for 6+ years and until now have not relapsed. My doctor wants me to start on an SSRI but I have read this will reduce the effectiveness of the Tamoxifen. Should I be conc

Voting Question: Advice for Taxotere/Docetaxel please?
(Mon, 23 Jun 2008 17:56:04 GMT)
Hi all. My mum is about to start 6 sessions of chemotherapy. She's on 3 drugs; taxotere, cyclophosphamide and zometa. The latter two don't sound too bad in their side effects but I'm a little concerned about taxotere. Are they likely to be severe? Does anyone have any advice about the best way to mitigate their effects? There's nothing more advanced she should be taking instead is there? Thanks.
