Oxygen Cough Causes and Reviews

Coughing is a reflex that keeps your throat and airways clear. Although it can be annoying, Coughing helps your body heal or protect itself. Coughs can be either acute or chronic. Acute Coughs begin suddenly and usually last no more than 2 to 3 weeks. Acute Coughs are the kind you most often get with a cold, flu, or acute bronchitis. Chronic Coughs last longer than 2 to 3 weeks. Causes of chronic Cough include

  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Asthma
  • Allergies
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)
  • Smoking
  • Throat disorders, such as croup in young children
  • Some medicines

Water can help ease your Cough - whether you drink it or add it to the air with a steamy shower or vaporizer. If you have a cold or the flu, antihistamines may work better than non-prescription Cough medicines. Children under four should not have Cough medicine. For children over four, use caution and read labels carefully.

Once I use the oxgyen again i have the headaches. I feel as if I dont need the Oxygen. Everytime I go to the doctor for check ups my levels are low between 78 and 84. Is there any that I should do or tell my doctor.

I have a friend that has currently been treated with steriods and is on Oxygen 24/7 and her gums appear sunburn and are peeling is this a side affect of the O2?

Sun, 13 May 2012

My husband has been on Oxygen for the last 21 months, and soon after, began getting a raspy voice, and it seemed hard for him to talk and breath. He only uses it at night. Recently he had to be hospitalized, and while there his normal sounding voice came back ( he was on Oxygen there as well 24/7). After being home for 5 days, he lost his voice, and it is slowly coming back a little bit. The Dr.s' have no clue, even though they both know he is still on the Oxygen. My husband has been told that he really doesn't need the Oxygen anymore, but he chooses to remain on it at night. He has recently been using a bottle filled with water that is hooked inline on the concentrator.

Thu, 17 Jun 2010

While using Oxygen (24/7) during the past six weeks I have become hoarse. I've now ceased the Oxygen therapy but my hoarseness persists. Is this normal or how long should I expect it to continue?
