Reclast Influenza Like Illness Causes and Reviews

Mosquitoes are insects that live all over the world. There are thousands of different species of mosquitoes; about 200 of those live in the United States.

Female mosquitoes bite animals and humans and drink a very small amount of their blood. They need protein and iron from blood to produce eggs. After drinking blood, they find some standing water and lay their eggs in it. The eggs hatch into larvae, then pupae, and then they become adult mosquitos. The males live for about a week to ten days, and the females can live up to several weeks. Some female mosquitoes can hibernate in the winter, and they can live for months.

What health problems can mosquito bites cause?

Most mosquito bites are harmless, but there are times when they can be dangerous. The ways that mosquito bites can affect humans include

  • Causing itchy bumps, as an immune system response to the mosquito's saliva. This is the most common reaction. The bumps usually go away after a day or two.
  • Causing allergic reactions, including blisters, large hives, and in rare cases, anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction that affects the whole body. It is a medical emergency.
  • Spreading diseases to humans. Some of these diseases can be serious. Many of them do not have any treatments, and only a few have vaccines to prevent them. These diseases are more of a problem in Africa and other tropical areas of the world, but more of them are spreading to the United States. One factor is climate change, which makes the conditions in some parts of the United States more favorable to certain types of mosquitoes. Other reasons include increased trade with, and travel to, tropical and subtropical areas.
Which diseases can mosquitoes spread?

Common diseases spread by mosquitoes include

  • Chikungunya, a viral infection that causes symptoms such as fever and severe joint pain. The symptoms usually last about a week, but for some, the joint pain may last for months. Most cases of chikungunya in the United States are in people who traveled to other countries. There have been a few cases where it has spread in the United States.
  • Dengue, a viral infection that causes a high fever, headaches, joint and muscle pain, vomiting, and a rash. Most people get better within a few weeks. In some cases, it can become very severe, even life-threatening. Dengue is rare in the United States.
  • Malaria, a parasitic disease that causes serious symptoms such as high fevers, shaking chills, and flu-like illness. It can be life-threatening, but there are drugs to treat it. Malaria is a major health problem in many tropical and subtropical areas of the world. Almost all cases of malaria in the United States are in people who traveled to other countries.
  • West Nile Virus (WNV), a viral infection that often has no symptoms. In those that do have symptoms, they are usually mild, and include fever, headache, and nausea. In rare cases, the virus can enter the brain, and it can be life-threatening. WNV has spread across the continental United States.
  • Zika Virus, a viral infection that often does not cause symptoms. One in five infected people do get symptoms, which are usually mild. They include a fever, rash, joint pain, and pinkeye. Besides being spread by mosquitoes, Zika can spread from mother to baby during pregnancy and cause serious birth defects. It can also spread from one partner to another during sex. There have been a few outbreaks of Zika in the southern United States.
How can I prevent mosquito bites?
  • Use an insect repellent when you go outdoors. Choose an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-registered insect repellent. They are evaluated to make sure they are safe and effective. Make sure that the repellant has one of these ingredients: DEET, picaridin, IR3535, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or para-menthane-diol. It is important to follow the instructions on the label.
  • Cover up. Wear long sleeves, long pants, and socks when outdoors. Mosquitoes may bite through thin fabric, so spray thin clothes with an EPA-registered repellent like permethrin. Don't apply permethrin directly to skin.
  • Mosquito-proof your home. Install or repair screens on windows and doors to keep mosquitoes out. Use air conditioning if you have it.
  • Get rid of mosquito breeding sites. Regularly empty standing water from your house and yard. The water could be in flowerpots, gutters, buckets, pool covers, pet water dishes, discarded tires, or birdbaths.
  • If you plan to travel, get information about the areas you will be going to. Find out whether there is a risk of diseases from mosquitoes, and if so, whether there is a vaccine or medicine to prevent those diseases. See a health care provider familiar with travel medicine, ideally 4 to 6 weeks before your trip.

Imagine walking through the park with your grandchildren when SNAP, one
of the bones in your leg suddenly breaks! It turns out the drugs that
are supposed to make your bones stronger - like Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva
and Reclast - could cause your femur to spontaneously snap.

Wed, 04 Apr 2012

Had recalst a few days ago. I put it off for a year because i was afraid to do it. Bad decision. Bones got weaker.
Did it a few days ago. It was a breeze.
Dont listen to all this negative stuff. The doctor told me only 20 percent of people have a slight reaction like a low fever and a little achy for a day but the majority of the people have no symptoms. The nurses verifed this. They said they have been there for 8 years and have had just a few people who had mild aches and low fever for a day. Most people have nothing.
I took it. Was fine. Went out that night for dinner. Went out the next day and ever since.
One tip. The doctor told me to hydrate the day before, the day of and the day after. Im sure that helps.
Anyone that needs it - please do it. Dont wait because your bones are just going to get worse.
good Luck!!

I have been on Reclast for 5 years. Like sh, I had no symptoms the first two years, except now that I look back, I realize what we have been calling restless leg syndrome began about that time. Then muscle cramps started. I would cry out they were so severe and my husband supported me into hot baths in the middle of the night. How, it is joint, muscle, shoulder and bone pain. My internist does not think it is a Reclast issue because she believes the symptoms all come and go within a few days of the infusion. My life is severely impacted. I can garden for a few hours, then take pain pills for 3-4 days before I have enough energy to try it again. Vacuuming the floor makes me so short of breath I have to stop every 5 minutes. Please let me know if anyone else is feeling like this and if anyone knows anything about antidote and/or if it just wears off if you don't repeat the procedure.

Sun, 16 Dec 2012

I just had a reclasp injection 24 hours ago.  I have severe joint, bone, and muscle pain.  I  am sick at my stomach.  Can't sleep.  All I can do is lay in bed.  I have the chills and a fever.  I have lost control of my bladder.  What can I do to survive this.

Thu, 23 Jun 2011

I'm having my third Reclast treatment, and ever since to first one, I have experienced severe hip pain and lower back pain. I also have muscle spasms daily and suffer and some bone pain in my ankles and tibia. I have discussed these side effects with my doctor and because my d-scan hadn't changed in the three years, she wants me to continuue the treatment. I'm torn about getting another infusion . I have discussed these issues with her and she shrugs her shoulders and tells me I need it.

What do you think?

Sat, 07 Jan 2012

I had a Reclast infusion, June 29, 2009. That night, (about 8 hours afterwards) I woke up feeling severe aching in ALL my joints, and nauseous. I got up from bed, and didn't make it to the bathroom - I projectile vomited/had diarreah at the same time... and from there it was totally downhill ... Did not stop vomiting and having acute diarreah forthe next four days. Could not keep in even a sip of water... on the 3rd day my husband took me to the local ER. They gave me an IV, some Zofram, and sent me home on oral zofram. within 3 hours of going home, I was back in the ER, completely dehydrated yet again. The did the same thing, sent me home yet again... Mind you, I have lupus, take steroids for it for over 15 years, so am now adrenal insufficient. Also have seizures from CNS lupus, take meds for that, too... was unable to take ANY of my meds for 4 days... by the time my DH contacted the doctor on call for my doctor, I was totally out of it... He had my husband take me to the larger, teaching hospital in the area, admitted me for FIVE days... I really had no idea where I was/who I was the first 24 hours there... All I will say is, it was the WORST experience of my life... well maybe the second worst, anyhow... I almost died. The Doctor who sent me to the ER told my husband I more than likely only had another 12-24 hours left, I was THAT sick... and if we had listened to the doctor in the local er (he told my husband to bring me home and just put me back in bed and let me sweat/vomit/poop it out over the next few days!!!!!), I would not be here today. Thank goodness the covering doctor asked my husband the RIGHT questions ! Reclast? NEVER again! (my doctor jokes with me every time I go in now.. asking me if I'm "ready" for my next infusion.... NOT)

One thing to keep in mind when you see all of these negative posts. Most people who had a pleasant experience or not going to post on the internet. For every negative post, who knows how many positive comments there could be that are not posted. I had my Reclast infusion yesterday. Had some pain and chills last night. Feel a little "blah" today, but hoping for a better day.
Sun, 09 Nov 2008
I had my RECLAST on THURSDAY, NOV, 6th at 1:30 in the afternoon. I started out with a slight headache, 8;30 p.m.I had the worst chills I have ever experienced in my life..I am 71 yrs old.My family ended up putting 8 blanketson me. I don't know if it was all the covers on me or my 103+ temperature, I finally started to get warm. I had such a severe headache, amp;amp; my bones felt like someone was breaking them, all over my body. My family put 4 different calls into the dr. only to be told this is normal. I would love to know if any dr. or nurse ever had this injection. I THINK NOT. WE ARE THIER GUINI PIGS. You have heard the saying the cemetaries are full of drs. mistakes. It is Sunday the 9th,amp;amp; I still feel awful. I will pray for all of you that you will get better. I know one thing they better never ask me to get another shot. My bones hurt terrible.
