Female patient reported the following 92 cc of Iodinated IV contrast was injected into me, the brand was Optiray (ioversol) which was administered at the time of a CT scan along with Cheetah brand barium which I had to swallow. These are made by Sentrx, which used to be Mallenkroft (sp?) Both product are iodine containing. side effect(s):First searing heat as I felt it travel through my veins all over my body, then nausea, weakness, extreme thirst, frequent urination, itching, burning eyes, red patches and pustules on my face, weight loss, red hands and feet, redness on my body, nausea after eating many foods. Oatmeal, egg whites, green beans, boneless skinless chicken breast, bananas were the main foods that agreed with my stomach. I was unable to tolerate milk products, beef, coffee, nuts, chocolate, fats, juices and oranges. This continued for four months. At that time I began to improve, but still am not back to my previous normal self.
I listed allergy to idodine on two forms and explained to my doctor and the technition that I was not able to take iodine IV contrast. Protocols exist for pretreating sensitive people to prevent or reduce these problems. No pretreatment option was given to me.
Event date: Thursday November 15th 12:00:00 AM
Dosage: 92 cc administered IV
Frequency: one time in this episode of side effects
Age: 59
Weight: 122
Other medications: 450 cc of Cheetah barium (swallowed)
Diagnosis: CT scan contrast due to some bright red blood in my stool (only saw it once)
Pre-existing conditions: I told my doctor that I had been given this before and was very sick for \"three or four days\". This prior episode doubles my chance or having a reaction like I had or worse. In addition, I have respiratory allergies which triples my risk (over average) for a reaction like I had or worse.
