Maxolon (main ingredient : metoclopramide) report #SELF-177


Female patient reported the following Maxolon (main ingredient : metoclopramide) side effect(s):Wry neck (Torticollis) Stiffening of the jaw, involuntary and uncontrollable twitching of the jaw and face, swelling and protrusion of tongue.

Well the doctor who prescribed it was unaware I was allergic to metaclopramide, so was I.

Frequency: 1 tablet 3x a day

Other medications: Aleve and an antacid (can\'t remember)
Diagnosis: I was given some type of antacid that the doctor probably thought would cause nausea, and therefore also prescribed Maxolon to prevent that.
Pre-existing conditions: Allergic to penicillin I am a West Indian of African decent
Hospitalized? Yes I went to two doctors none of which knew what was the problem, the latter of which just gave me a muscle relaxant and something to get rid of the allergy.
Life-threatening? No
Disabled? Yes i have pain in my jaw even now, sometimes trouble getting to sleep due to fear, pain when chewing, slight pain in my neck.
Birth Defects? No
Was intervention required to prevent damage? No
Other serious medical events? No
Died? No
