Metformin 500mg report #SELF-2639
Male patient reported the following Metformin 500mg side effect(s):I have suffered from gout occasionally for over 10 years. During an attack in early 2009, I attended my doctor; it was my second in six months so he arranged for blood tests; prescribed indomethacin and NSAID. Gout began to subside. Blood tests & subsequent blood glucose tests indicated I have Type 2 Diabetes. Doc. prescribed Metformin 500mg daily. Began medicating on 02/13/09 before all signs of gout attack had gone. Here\'s my gout history of the subsequent five weeks: Gout reappeared in L foot, medicated with only partial success. Gout then appeared in L knee, medicated without success. Gout then appeared in L foot. By this time I had no more medicine to treat the gout. 3/24/2009 I decided I would not take Metformin. Visited doctor. Doc took me off Metformin for approx 4 wks, prescribed indomethacin (I had none left). The following day, on waking, found the gout symptoms were already disappearing. Inflammation and swelling much reduced in L knee and foot. Mobility all but recovered. I can now move L leg and stand on it without pain. In the past, each gout attack had lasted for no more than one week when medicated with Indomethacin. To my own mind, Metformin is the reason my gout attack persisted for so long. Although I am willing to go on it again to prove the point to my doc, I don\'t think I will have to.
