Avelox report #SELF-3370

Female patient reported the following Avelox side effect(s):Within 10-15 minutes of taking medication, started with mouth burning a little, palms itching followed rapidly by feeling very, faint, profuse sweating. This progressed to swelling of tongue, throat, and red skin as in a bad sunburn to arms, back, trunk, and legs. Very, very scary feeling! All I could think was do NOT faint because you will not wake up! Had a zyrtec in the home and took it and immediately sent family member to store for Benadryl and took 50 mg within an hour of onset. Symptoms resolved but I never want to feel that again! Truly thought I was on my way out of this life for a short bit. Interestingly, I had taken this medication about 5-6 months ago with no problem.
