I had no diagnosis of any diverticulosis or diverticulitis prior to April 7 2010. That night I was working afternoon turn when severe abdominal pain struck and at first I thought I had apendicitis but the pain was so severe I had no idea how I got home. Upon arriving home my wife took one look at me and rushed me to urgent care where they rushed me to the hospital as my white cell count was astronomically high. After several tests I underwent emergency surgery and had part of colon removed, they were able to sew intestine back together but after 5 days the sutures were leaking and had to have emergency surgery again and came out with a bag on. After 4 weeks in hospital I was released to return in 6 months and have the illiostomy reversed but after 5 days at home I had a pulmonary embollism and therefore spent another week and a half in hospital. After 6 months to the day I had the illiostomy reversed and have had no complications since. What an experience that was, I spent 23 years in the military spent 2 combat tours one in Viet Nam and another in Lebanon and would do them 2 tours again rather than go through that medical ordeal again. I can only say that anyone having this type of surgery the good days will return again even if you think they won't.
