PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) problem was reported from CA on Mar 07, 2007. Female patient , child 9 years of age, was vaccinated with PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) on Feb 28, 2007. Swelling and tenderness left deltoid approx 0.5 cm erythema at each puncture site. Approx 4x4 cm erythema with induration distal to injection sites.. NONE. . Patient recovered.

PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) problem was reported from IA on Mar 08, 2007. Female patient , child 8 years of age, was vaccinated with PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) on Mar 07, 2007. "Information has been received from a registered nurse concerning an 8 year old female patient with complex congenital heart disease who on 21-FEB-2007 was vaccinated IM with a 0.5 mL first dose Pneumovax 23 (Lot# 65588/0883F). Concomitant therapy included amoxicillin. On approximately 23-FEB-2007, the patient developed progressive pain, redness and swelling at the injection site (time line unspecified). On 23-FEB-2007 the patient was seen in the office and due to the swelling and pain at the site, could not move the area. She was admitted to the hospital from 23-FEB-206 to 26-FEB-2007. The patient's white blood cell count was 14,700 and C-reactive protein was 1.0 at the time of admission to the hospital. The nurse reported that the patient was discharged from the hospital (date unspecified) and she was not considered to be disabled by the events. She was considered recovered. "Information has been received from a registered nurse concerning a 6 year old female with pertinent medical history and drug reactions/allergies reported as none who on 30-JAN-2007 was vaccinated with the second dose of Pneumovax 23 (lot #655588/0883F), 0.5 ml, IM. Concomitant therapy included Varivax which was given at the same time as the Pneumovax but in a different site and AUGMENTIN. The patient received a previous vaccination with Pneumovax on 04-NOV-2007 without problems. The nurse reported that the patient developed an injection site rash that was swollen, red and painful with fever the evening of 30-JAN-2007 after receiving Pneumovax early in the day. The reaction got progressively worse until 01-FEB-2007 when the patient was admitted to the hospital. The patient could not move the are on 01-FEB-2007 due to the swelling and pain at the injection site. The patient was hospitalized on 01-FEB-2007. The following laboratory test6 were recorded on admission to the hospital: white blood cell count 18,700, neutrophils 88, C reactive protein 8.1 with a normal level of less than 5 and lymphocytes of 11. The patient was placed on antibiotic therapy with CLAFORN, 1 gram every 8 hours in the hospital. The patient was discharged from the hospital on 02-FEB-2007 and given oral CEFTIN, 250 mg twice daily for 10 days (even though considered recovered on 02-FEB-2007). Woke up on 3/9/07 and had increased swelling of entire left arm from shoulder to elbow, skin on arm was red and splotchy. Instructed patient to come to office for doctor to evaluate. PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) problem was reported from FL on Mar 16, 2007. Female patient , 72 years of age, was vaccinated with PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) on Mar 14, 2007. "Information has been received from a health professional concerning a 72 year old white female with no known drug allergies who on 29-JAN-2007 was vaccinated in the left deltoid with a first dose of Zostavax (lot # 656413/1477F). Concomitant vaccination the same day included a dose of Pneumovax. Other concomitant medication included CELEBREX, DIOVAN, EFFEXOR XR and alendronate sodium. No illness was noted at the time of vaccination. On 29-JAN-2007 the patient started vomiting and had a rash for two days. The vomiting lasted 24 ours. Medical attention was not sought. Patient states had fever of 101.5 and sore arm evening of 2-27-07 and 2-28-07 off from work. Returned to work 02-29-07 and no further problems. Doctor reported advised Tylenol 500mg 2 tabs every 4-6 hours for 24 hours and cold compress.. . NONE. Patient recovered.

PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) problem was reported from OH on Mar 22, 2007. Male patient , 68 years of age, was vaccinated with PNEUMO (PNEUMOVAX) on Mar 21, 2007. "Information has been received from a 68 year old male consumer who on 19-NOV-2006 was vaccinated with a dose of Pneumovax 23. Concomitant therapy included influenza on 16-NOV-2006. On 20-NOV-2006 (also reported as ""later that evening"" after receiving Pneumovax 23) the patient felt delirious and stated that his wife called life support for assistance. The patient was admitted to the hospital ""while the physician operated on his right shoulder."" According to the patient's chart, on 29-NOV-2006 the patient had surgery due to a fractured humerus. The patient stated that he was unconscious throughout the whole process and only knew what his wife had informed him. The consumer also stated that the treating physicians at the hospital could not determine why the Pneumovax 23 and influenza affected him in this way.
