INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (FLUMIST) vaccine side effect was reported on 12/29/2008. Female patient, 52.0 years of age, was vaccinated with INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (FLUMIST). Patient symptoms: Facial palsy, "A serious spontaneous report of Bell's Palsy has been received from a Registered Nurse concerning a 52-year-old female subsequent to FLUMIST. Medical history and concomitant medications were not reported. On 05-Oct-2008, the patient received FLUMIST. On 05-Nov-2008, the patient started to experience tingling and numbness. Subsequently, the symptoms became more prominent and a neurologist diagnosed her with BELL's Palsy. The event was ongoing. The sponsor considered the event of BELL's Palsy to be serious (important medical event)." . During the same period patient was treated with Concomitant drug (s) not reported. Patient recovered.

INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (FLUMIST) vaccine side effect was reported on 10/24/2008. Male patient, 13.0 years of age, was vaccinated with INFLUENZA (SEASONAL) (FLUMIST). Patient symptoms: Facial palsy, "A serious spontaneous report of paralysis on the right side of his face was received from the mother of the patient concerning a 13 year-old male subsequent to FLUMIST. Medical history included allergies and concomitant medication included fluticasone propionate. The patient received a dose of FLUMIST on 13-Oct-2008. A total of one dose was received before onset of the event which occurred eight days later. The child's mother called to report her son on 21-Oct-2008 complained of paralysis on the right side of her face. The child stated that, ~my right eye will not shut right~ and ~my smile does not work.~ He was taken to an urgent care clinic on 22-Oct-2008 where blood work was drawn but no diagnosis was given. On 24-Oct-2008 the child was seen by his primary physician who tested for Lyme's disease and was negative. The child was seen by a Neurologist, exam was negative except for an initial tongue extension test that initially showed deviation to the left but a re-test showed straight extension. The mother stated that there were no plans for future diagnostic imaging. Per the mother the child continues to exhibit symptoms no improvement or worsening of condition was noted. The mother stated that the Neurologist believes the child's symptoms may be attributed to either a virus or FLUMIST." AllergyLyme's Disease: Negative test . During the same period patient was treated with FLONASE. Patient recovered.

Assessment: Presented one week after Flumist with c/o flu-like symptoms and HA w/o rash, fever, vomiting, photophobia, neck stiffness, nasal bleeding or facial pressure. Given IM Toradol without relief. Prescribed Epidrin for HA. Two weeks post Flumist presents with R facial sagging. VSS. Alert and oriented in NAD, normal speech, sensation and reflexes.
