Xalatan Cataract Causes and Reviews

A Cataract is a clouding of the lens in your eye. It affects your vision. Cataracts are very common in older people. By age 80, more than half of all Americans either have a Cataract or have had Cataract surgery.

A Cataract can occur in either or both eyes. It cannot spread from one eye to the other. Common symptoms are

  • Blurry vision
  • Colors that seem faded
  • Glare - headlights, lamps or sunlight may seem too bright. You may also see a halo around lights.
  • Not being able to see well at night
  • Double vision
  • Frequent prescription changes in your eye wear

Cataracts usually develop slowly. New glasses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses or magnifying lenses can help at first. Surgery is also an option. It involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens. Wearing sunglasses and a hat with a brim to block ultraviolet sunlight may help to delay Cataracts.

I've been taking Xalatan for six months now, my sinuses started aching I had a sore throat and felt as though I was about to develope a cold. The pain from my sinuses increased and spread to my teeth and I had a tooth removed but it did not solve the problem, other teeth began to ache. I stopped taking Xalatan and all these symptoms went away. After five days pain free I started Xalatan again and now after a few days the symptoms are coming back. Is there an alternative?

Was on Xalatan (and later, Lumigan) for several years (for glaucoma); finally stopped because of all the undesirable side-effects. (Unfortunately, stopping the drops apparently caused optic nerve damage and am now back on Xalatan, with a repeat of undesirable side-effects from first go-round, listed below.) Side effects included: darkening of orbital area and lids (quot;raccoon-eyesquot;); red, itchy eyes; cholesterol deposits around eyes; thickening amp;amp; lengthening of lashes necessitating clipping of lashes because they hit eyeglasses; greasy-feeling eyes, lids, amp;amp; eye areas; blurry vision; iris-color change; hair loss; acne amp;amp; pimples; increased anxiety. Also insomnia, depression, and heart irregularities that may or may not be related to the eye drops. Doctors amp;amp; drug company leaflets do not discuss all these side-effects and offer nothing by way of help with them. Even though high eye pressure is dangerous and potentially vision-damaging, the side-effects of Xalatan and similar prostaglandin-like drugs are *serious* and drug companies amp;amp; researchers should be trying *harder* to find a way to minimize or stop these side-effects. Further, the bottle that Xalatan comes in is ridiculous! There is no excuse for such a crummy bottle; it is tiny, hard to open, and hard to squeeze uniform drops from it. The price of Xalatan is also astronomical. These things HAVE to change.

I used Xalatan for 2 weeks. My sinus's and the right side of my neck became so painful that I couldn't even touch them. I could barely swallow. I was then given Brimonidine Tartrate. One drop in the right eye and 30 minutes later I was on the way to the hospital with a Tachycardia and my left side went 'dead'. It took 2 weeks for my left side to come back to normal. I'm a 46 year old female. Right now I'm taking NOTHING for my glaucoma. I don't know what I'm going to do.

I took Xalatan for 10 months. During the first 3 to 4 weeks I had red itchy eyes and frequent pain in the eyeball. Gradually I developed cardiac arrhythmia which I had never had before. I do not take any other medicines. The arrythmia became worse and a cardilogist diagnosed me with sick-sinus syndrome Lown III. Xalatan was discontinued. The arrhythmia became slightly better, but was irreversible. As it turned out, Xalatan had permanently and completely damaged the sinu artrial node, so that I had to have a pacemaker implanted, which is causing so many problems that I spend more time in hospital than outside. I am 47 and my life has been ruined by Xalatan. I do not understand why this drug has not been forbidden!
